Iron Man 2 Trailer released
A comic film yes but it's about a guy flying around in power armor so I figure it qualifies as Technology based sci-fi.

Re: Iron Man 2 Trailer released
I'd love to watch the trailer except I can't even when I went and installed quick time the web page does not start the trailer it simply refreshs itself. Turned off add-blocker the normal standard troubleshooting. Even tried viewing the page in IE with all permissions set to yes and security set to low and still nothing.

Works fine for me, even at work.
I'm not sure it'll be any better than the first one, but at least it's not suicide material. I'll watch it!

I can't get it to work either.

Worked fine for me.
My Other Half's birthday is in May. Can't think of a better present for a half-century old boy than taking him out for bright lights, explosions, and gratuitous violence. And hey, I like it, too.

Whiplash, a long-time Iron Man foe.
Though the idea of a guy with fancy energy whips facing off against an armoured guy with long ranged weapons has always sat badly with me. It doesn't matter one jot if those whips can simply slice through the armour when said armour can send anti-tank missiles or repulsor blasts at you from half a mile away.

I always wondered about that too; some of Iron Man's "traditional" opponents definitely had some advantages that made them worthy opponents, but Whiplash/Blacklash never really struck me as particularly dangerous.Parallax wrote:Whiplash, a long-time Iron Man foe.

Re: Iron Man 2 Trailer released
you know, this reminds me that I still haven't seen all of the first one, but I really did like the parts I did see. It seems like the movies are the only medium where Tony Stark is an actual hero, since IIRC in the main marvel universe he's turned into a fascist dick, and ultimate iron man is some kind of drunken invalid or something.
And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks
Re: Iron Man 2 Trailer released
It's nice to see a comic book movie that doesn't take itself so goddamned seriously. Just blow shit up already! Garry Shandling as a Senator? HAHAHAHAAAA!
By the way, Gwyneth Paltrow looks hot as hell!
This movie looks like the kind of dumb fun I've been missing for too long.

In the comics, Stark is currently undergoing a rather extreme redemption process.Darksider wrote:you know, this reminds me that I still haven't seen all of the first one, but I really did like the parts I did see. In short, to keep sensitive information out of Osborn's hands he pretty much lobotomised himself. Thor, Pepper and Captain America took steps to return him to normal just last issue - we'll have to wait and see what happens.
And as much as a git as Stark was ... there's much worse in place now with Norman Osborn.

I greatly enjoyed Iron Man, in fact the only thing I didn't like was that they didn't play 'Iron Man' until the credit despite having a perfectly appropriate time to do so during the film (when Stark test drove the thing in Bumfuckistan), hopefully they make up for it this time around.

He wasn't that much of a hero in the movie, either, at least not by superhero standards. Mostly he just cleaned up his own messes. Still a good movie, though.Darksider wrote:you know, this reminds me that I still haven't seen all of the first one, but I really did like the parts I did see. Oh and fuck Apple. I'm pretty much certain that my movie-playing software can play your videos just fine, even if it doesn't happen to be exactly what you're hawking. Why did Apple get a monopoly on movie trailers, anyway? What does Apple have to do with movies?
You do realise that the song "Iron Man" has absolutely nothing to do with the comic character, right? It's nice that they gave it a bit of a nod in the closing credits, but it would have been completely out of place in the actual movie.General Schatten wrote:I greatly enjoyed Iron Man, in fact the only thing I didn't like was that they didn't play 'Iron Man' until the credit despite having a perfectly appropriate time to do so during the film (when Stark test drove the thing in Bumfuckistan), hopefully they make up for it this time around.

That's a longstanding problem in superhero movies. See Spiderman 2, when you can't help but wonder why some cop doesn't just put a bullet through his soft body. Iron Man made sense once you accepted the absurd technology, because hey, the guy is completely armoured from head to toe. But a guy who is 98% exposed flesh, effortlessly overwhelming soldiers and police? How fucking retarded is that?FaxModem1 wrote:Well, I know what I'm seeing in May.

Re: Iron Man 2 Trailer released
At the time Black Sabbath recorded "Iron Man" they actually had to go through some maneuvering just to make sure that Marvel wouldn't get in a huff over the matter, and to avoid legal trouble. There was definitely some distrust between the two entities at the time. I'm sure some lawyers were involved in the use of the "Iron Man" song at the end of the "Iron Man" movie, but since 40 years had gone by I guess no one was going to get into too much of a fit over the matter.Drooling Iguana wrote:You do realise that the song "Iron Man" has absolutely nothing to do with the comic character, right? Re: Iron Man 2 Trailer released
I don't care whether the lyrics of the song are appropriate for Iron Man. It's such an awesome riff that it deserves to be in the movie, and everyone I know thought the original trailer with the Iron Man riff over the cave breakout scene was indescribably awesome.

How about the fact that the guy, like Stark, built what seems the Mythical Arc Reactor out of spare Junk in a Garage?Darth Wong wrote:That's a longstanding problem in superhero movies. The first movie goes out of its way to establish that Stark and Stark alone was enough of a Super-genius to make it work. Staine had all the money of Stark Industries and all of its head researchers working to try and recreate the Reactor, all those resources and NONE of them could do what Stark was able to...
Now we have some guy we know nothing about copy Starks reactor in some garage...
Unless the movie establishes something along the lines of him stealing the plans, or the knowledge or something, I will be very VERY disappointed if they just have this "Guy" make an Arc Reactor on his own, when all the Researchers and resources of Stark Industries couldn't.

Having now seen the trailer myself I can comment on this. There's a very clear point in the trailer where we see the movies big bad in his garage with a giant blue print which clearly has STARK on the corner.Crossroads Inc. wrote:

Ahhhhh you are right.. Still that asks the question of why TOny, after being so secretive and guarded about the Reactor in movie One, would write down the information where it could be stolen... Of course with what else I've seen in the movie, IE lots and lots of IronMan like suits/robots Attacking Stark and 'WarMachine' I'm guessing the genie is out of the bottle.Mr Bean wrote:Having now seen the trailer myself I can comment on this. Maybe those blueprints were made by Staine, the big bad from Iron Man 1 and his research goons?Crossroads Inc. wrote:Ahhhhh you are right.. Though in this case they would be incomplete.
What happened to the mk2 reactor Staine stole from Stark for his own armor?
Maybe Whiplash has the incomplete blueprints and the damaged mk2 and just repairs it.
Just speculating there.

HELLS yes! Love the last few shots with Tony and Rhodey.
Oh... and the Whiplash character, in the comics, was a Mob assassin, and he wasn't Russian. From what I understand, the moviemakers have combined Whiplash with a more heavily armored Russian foe, the Crimson Dynamo (or maybe Titanium Man). I wouldn't be surprised if Whiplash gets a serious armor upgrade in the movie itself.

Re: Iron Man 2 Trailer released
I just remembered about an interesting event in Marvel comics around 20-25 years ago. A guy (who later became known as "Scourge of the Underworld") started going around in various comics, killing the lower-tier villains with a single gunshot to the chest. I think it was more a matter of "pruning the bushes" than demonstrating the absurdity of their continued existence, but it still served both purposes.Darth Wong wrote:But a guy who is 98% exposed flesh, effortlessly overwhelming soldiers and police?
