Phase Cloak Question
We know that a ship can be put out of phase with the appropriate equipment.
We know that a transporter can put people and weapons out of phase after some funky things are done to it.
Would it be possible for a phase-cloaked ship to engage a funktified transporter and beam objects back into phase with normal reality?

Yes, but it would be like beaming something off of the holodeck and getting it to stay materialized. You would need a powerful transporter and a lot of power.

This argument is pointless. You're assuming that just because the two devices use the same technobabble buzz-word (phase) that they must operate on the same principle? EVERYTHING in TNG Trek uses phase and frequency. It proves nothing.

While drawing conclusions about one device from the other is flimsy (although employed by alot of people around here) the two systems do have alot in common since the transporter was modfied by interaction with whatever causes the phase cloak to work (at least the Romulan version ).Darth Servo wrote:This argument is pointless. Trek transporters are "modified" by just about anything.TheDarkling wrote:the two systems do have alot in common since the transporter was modfied by interaction with whatever causes the phase cloak to work (at least the Romulan version ).
X-rays (Symbiosis), Armus (Skin of Evil), "hyperonic radiation" (Ensigns of Command), "Teremi-thorons" (same episode), electrical storms (The Enemy, Power Play), certain types of explosive detonators (The High Ground), the "Tin Man", "hytritium" (The Most Toys), electromagnetic fields generated by an ordinary transformer (Legacy), the natural magnetic field of an inhabitable moon (Final Mission), increased energy levels in a planet's ionosphere (Darmok), "victurium" (Hero Worship), "nucleonic interference" (Schisms), an unusually large concentration of ions (True Q, Lessons), ionizing radiation (Quality of Life), tractor beams (The Chase, Attached), intense solar radiation (Suspicions).
Do all these things work on similar principles as the transporter? No. There is no reason what-so-ever to conclude that the transporter can be linked with a phase cloak.

Most of the things you mention simply block the transporter (and most of those are more of a sensor issue) and we saw their effects.
The effects of a transporter getting effected by the technobabble X that the Romulan Phase Cloak were observed to put the items transporter out of phase in a manner similiar (at least on a superficial level) to the way a phase cloak puts the ship out of phase.

Actually, this phenomenon really dates back only to TNG. The original series was very sparing of technobabble.SCVN 2812 wrote:Ah yes, glorious technobabble, making people watching go "what the hell does that mean?!" for 30 odd years.
For a time, I considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron.
