It has nothing to do with the scifi forum, smart guy. Your attempt to cover up your failure to place this thread in the correct forum by waffling on about terrible fluff doesn't mean you just didn't look at the forums properly. Your thread a) isn't about EVE's fluff and b) was touting or advertising.

I'm not sure how 'I am obsessed with meaningless trivia' plays into 'you need tactics', since 'tactics' is 100% based on the mechanics. None of the 'drama', 'tales', or 'crowning moments of awesome' (btw, I hate you) has anything to do with fluff whatever; 0.0 is a players playground. Event occur flowing from the economy and mechanics, not what happened with the Amarr government illegally penetrated Min space with it's garbage scows.

The idea 'our clan killed their clan for money' is fluff-based or 'the next step forward in science fiction' is the kind of stupid shit you'd expect from a tvtroper.
What crawled up and died in your butt this morning. Seriously man, calm down breath deeply and don't shovel your dissatisfied butthurt with Tvtropes ruin a perfectly good thread. You are I think demonstratively wrong on nearly every issue but its not worth arguing it with your current tone of voice erm text.

Was that a rhetorical question? It needs a question mark.

And look, if your corp is a bunch of roleplaying carebears, that's fine and dandy. If you're a troper, well, that's a personal problem. If you're going to claim that EVE's fluff is relevant and generates some slice of the action or drives decisions, you're going to have to prove it. Everything I ever saw or heard over years of play highlighted the utterly mercenary, munchkin, number-crunching basis of high-level decisions; numbers and personality are key, not Amarr slave revolts or whatever. The 'interesting' stuff, the draw of the game (as highlighted in your own post, with the Dominion trailer) is entirely player-driven, player-built, player-arranged, and player participated. Watching the 0.0 sov map is way more interesting than reading short stories about Caldari business deals gone wrong IN SPACE.

To point out somthing you seem to have missed Blayne, EVE is a game, thus should be in the Gaming and computers forum. Now if it were a debate about the firepower yeild of fluff battleships, that might be somthing for Sci Fi.

Otherwise asking if people want to play a game? That's for the gaming forum, just check where the WoW threads are for that matter.

Coffee, looking at the Provi sov maps and kill levels by system makes me want to reactivate and head out that way. I finally did the scanning/exploring tutorial so I even know how that works after four years of playing. :D

Yeah, we're cover on three sides by enemy alliances, get roaming gangs from alliances that are clear across the galaxy map, and a whole load of wannabe pirates in the boarding low-sec systems to deal with. Provi's a good place if you're into PVP.

Must be about 1 year since I've stopped playing. Never felt so free again :P

Perhaps, one day, like when walking in stations or who knows, on planets, is possible I'd give it another go. For now, I'll look at it from a safe distance.

Okay, I completed the career missions and have a destroyer, now what? Choose a corp at random and join it? Pick a 0.0 sector at random and warp out to it?

Pick a random direction and see how far you get. When that doesn't work out PM me with your character name and we'll see if we can figure something out for you.

Coffee, Flash and I got 5-day reactivators and we're thinking about renewing. So the thread wasn't a complete waste, crybaby aside.

The new tutorials and 'early game' is a massive improvement, too. The game is far more accessible now.

Oh yeah, they made a lot of changes that really make the game a little less of an uphill battle for new players and address some much needed balancing issues and ease of use issues for old hands. Lot of new content, lot of added capabilities (like a scanning system revamped to not make you tear your hair out), and some new stuff for soveriegnty that is damned near a fundamental game changer.

Hey, when you resub hit me up and I'll get you set up with a couple of the best probers in the game. Be like old times, only without the carebearing and a lot more pew pew.

That's a matter of opinion... My main got stuck in a wormhole when I couldn't scan down the next one so... :effort: Hopefully on this next five day thing I can get it out.

Try PMing White Haven. He might be able to give you some pointers on Probing. If all else fails, just write off the loss and do an emergency clone jump (hit self-destruct). But try White Haven first...

I started up about 2 weeks back. I think I've fallen in with a carebear corporation, currently mucking around in Caldari space. Seems pretty fun so far, I like the vague feeling of Frontier First Encounters/X3 etc. that the game has.

Crap. This and a mail from eve (free limited ship when and 5 days free for reactivating) makes me want to play again. I wonder if I'm still in the same corp.

Just how do make people good money these days? Never really got into the new exploration thing before I quit.

edit: and what about tech3 ships? I'd love to try them but they were hidiously expensive. Are they more affordable in the meantime?

To cement further the potential use of this thread. I am thinking of going back into the game. Though this time I kinda want to get into 0.0 proper. I don't mind Empire space at times but sometimes I just feel like 0.0 is more fun atm. I can just pick up where I left off with my character.

Also if you want an example of fluff not being worth a fuck in gameplay terms:

There was this mission we did in the old unofficial SDN corp where you had to kill this guy and take something from him as proof of killing him or something. Our corp ended up having 15 of this item. So much for fluff.

What does this game understand as 'exploration'? Can you boldly go where no man has gone before (into anomalies!)? Or is it just scouting for resources? Or something else?

Thank Zeus they revised the Titan doomsday weapon. I always hated the fun killing, lag generating one-shot-kill-fleet-weapon of doom.

Speaking as a covert ops pilot, I detested the old DDs for making it too dangerous to spy on Titans. Hurrah for targetted Doomsdays!

I really think it's more a network change than a balance change; people had all kinds of fits to survive the DD anyway. Well, maybe not covops.... ;)

My understanding is that the game spawns sites you can scan down to find stuff; the sites despawn (and respawn) a certain time after you leave. Apparently people 'touch' sites they don't want to get another roll so they can farm what they want. I haven't messed with wormholes but they sound awesome with their mass limit etc.

You can scan down signatures and travel to them but they are all fall within specific categories.

1: Radar - Combat site with Hacking
2: Magnetromic - Combat site with Archeology
3: Ladar - Mining site with Gas
4: Grav - Mining site with Ore
5: Named Combat site - Straight up combat site

As for boldy going where no man has gone before = Wormhole Space

W-space is basically the small corps 0.0 with all that brings plus a bit of randomness thrown in. However, its a ballbuster to get into if you dont have a good bunch of people to fly with at the higher end. Running the C1s - C3s solo IS possible but that makes them popular stomping grounds and corps that setup shop their will gun down anyone who tries to poach on their territory.

After living in a C3 and now moved to a C4. I find W-space to be far better than 0.0 unless your looking to get into large scale lag fest battles. W-space was originally meant to be a 'training' ground for 0.0. It does that rather well by demanding situational awarness and at higher levels forcing your team to properly apply themselves to their strengths and weaknesses.

These days I'm a Nullsec pilot, but I'm quite fond of wormholes. I've gone wormhole diving just for kicks, I've used wormholes to link null to highsec for several different high-null corp moves, which takes some artful scouting and patience. A well-tanked Drake can handle up to a C3 on its own, although the C3 combat sites will take /forever/ and the mad/radar sites will probably be too dangerous. Oh, and BRING A PROBE LAUNCHER, I don't care if you're flying your combat ride or a mining ship.
