Sen. Joe Lieberman believes that Guantanamo Bay's bad reputation isn't deserved. "You could not find a better, more humane facility for a detention center in the world," Lieberman told ABC's Terry Moran Sunday.

Lieberman thinks it's a mistake to close the detention center. "The president is in charge of what happens there now so some of the abuses of the past are not going to happen [in the future]," said Lieberman.

Torture Continues at Guantánamo Bay:

The "Black Shirts" of Guantánamo routinely terrorize prisoners, breaking bones, gouging eyes, squeezing testicles, and "dousing" them with chemicals.

As the Obama administration continues to fight the release of some 2,000 photos that graphically document U.S. military abuse of prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan, an ongoing Spanish investigation is adding harrowing details to the ever-emerging portrait of the torture inside and outside Guantánamo. Among them: "blows to [the] testicles;" "detention underground in total darkness for three weeks with deprivation of food and sleep;" being "inoculated ... through injection with 'a disease for dog cysts;'" the smearing of feces on prisoners; and waterboarding. The torture, according to the Spanish investigation, all occurred "under the authority of American military personnel" and was sometimes conducted in the presence of medical professionals.

More significantly, however, the investigation could for the first time place an intense focus on a notorious, but seldom discussed, thug squad deployed by the U.S. military to retaliate with excessive violence to the slightest resistance by prisoners at Guantánamo

Apparently, Holy Joe's idea of "humane" includes hanging people in their cells after tying their hands and feet and shoving rags down their throats so far the doctors had a hard time removing them.

Why is it trite? I mean that one conservative radio guy (Mancow, I think...?) thought waterboarding was AOK... until he had it done to him.

Why can't these fuckholes just level with us and say what we knew all along: Gitmo is a FARM for future terrorists, not a prison for current ones. In other words, the Nazis who do this shit want us attacked so they can justify putting Joe Sixpack's two blond boys in Gitmo so they grow up to be terrorists too! The torture exists there merely to make America into a legitimate target for attack.

The torture exists there merely to make America into a legitimate target for attack.

They already know the truth of the matter and how this sick cycle works. Let's face it: they NEED a steady supply of men who are willing and ready to kill Americans, and what better way to maintain that supply than to (a) kidnap, rape, torture and murder them and (b) invade and occupy their countries. Want an example that hits closer to home?

John McCain, Sam Johnson and Jeremiah Denton were all locked up in the Hanoi Hilton (where they got some of Ho Chi Minh's version of "enhanced interrogation techniques"), and each has been a rabid warmonger ever since -far more so than other Vietnam veterans, who range from being vehemently anti-war to pro-war to somewhere in-between. One could just as easily make the case that the Vietnamese should have really worked over McCain and the others, or kept them locked up forever or uh, found them hanged in their cells with their hands and feet bound with rags stuffed deep in their gullets. Forty years later, and Dungeon Master McCain is still groping for an excuse to bomb people.

Just like Uncle Fester's late ex, they want us dead and they want our money.
