Re: Clone Wars season 2
So did anyone catch the two episodes that played on the 1st?
We finally got some Grievous after a long absence.

Re: Clone Wars season 2
First one was pretty good, though I feel like I've seen that particular plot line enough. Second one was not so good, IMO.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Re: Clone Wars season 2
I liked the first for its messing with EU ship rules. "Three Cruiser-class (the Venators) and four Escort-class (the Consulars and that new light cruiser)"
Re: Clone Wars season 2
were those children half human half Twi'lek? O.o
or were they the offspring of a previous relationship?
or were they the offspring of a previous relationship?
Re: Clone Wars season 2
The kids had to be from a previous relationship unless they are throwing the 3 year time line of the Clone Wars right out the window. Even if that was set right before the battle of Coruscant, there is _NO_ way those kids were that old/developed if they were the Clone's kids.
Unless the Clone aging carries over and/or Twi'lek + Clone = Super Children.

More ship-related musings:
After having studied the side-by-side shoot-out between the command ship and Koth's Venator, I get a minimum size-comparison where Grievous's ship is at least +2km long.

Re: Clone Wars season 2
I was rather more interested in the new 'corellian' type frigates/escorts. I call it a 'corellian' just due to the CEC type engine blocks on the thing.

Re: Clone Wars season 2
Since WOTC made the obviously Consular-derived Pelta-class into a KDY product, I'm not holding out much hope for this class being Corellian.
Re: Clone Wars season 2
Wookiepedia's episode guide has it as a Recusant-class destroyer; either those ships shrinked before the Battle fo Coruscant or they are wrong.VT-16 wrote:More ship-related musings:

The episode guide at Starwars.com writes "This episode is filled with numerous new starship models, including the Separatist destroyer (based on a ship design seen in Episode III) [...]". I'd say that makes it a new design, because they don't call it 'a separatist destroyer like those seen in Ep III'.
The new cruiser looks very nice, the clearly visible gun turrets remind me of Fractalsponge's works .Knife wrote:I was rather more interested in the new 'corellian' type frigates/escorts. I call it a 'corellian' just due to the CEC type engine blocks on the thing.

Re: Clone Wars season 2
Yeah, Fractalsponge's corvette design came out not too long ago, I also thought of that when I saw those big turrets. Wonder if they're meant to be the same as on the Venator-class.

Re: Clone Wars season 2
VT-16, the bridge looks suspiciously like the top section of the Muni bridge (the sloped glass windows) Also the attached lander could give us a better absolute reference. Do we have to chalk this up to a idiot droid hitting 2x scale on the design plans or something? There really isn't any excuse for the ships to not have definitive size straight from the models when they are all CG. I really wonder if the production staff wanted it to be bigger or if the artist working on it was sloppy in doing an import of the reference model.
I also wonder when they finally show the Providence class if it be scaled up as well? ( I still believe the Provie was >2km in ROTS)

The episode guide at Starwars.com has a slide show with design concepts, picture 8 has a simplified view Grievous' ship with an inlay picture noting 'reuse banking clan frigate bridge for this section'.
Probably because they didn't want to create a new bridge interior event taking place onboard the destroyer, they also used the external bridge tower layout and enlarged the Recusant-destroyer hull to make it a new vessel.

Re: Clone Wars season 2
Yes, I think the text on the official site even says it's based on the Recusant, and not actually the class itself. There's also no CW appearance visible on the Commerce Guild Support Ship profile, so that'd mean the specific class hasn't appeared in the show.
Re: Clone Wars season 2
Big heap of pics for analysis and joy.
Here's the lower right side of the CIS command ship. Notably more built up than the smaller Recusants, including at least one hangar opening.
Destroyer firing its bridge cannons.
Jedi shuttle flies past the ship. Notice the C-9799 landing craft in the background. Wings stretching out to the armored ventral hull on the destroyer.
Shuttle attaches itself to the destroyer.
Republic frigates fly past destroyer and escorting frigates. Destroyer rear-view.
Light cruiser and escorts with main cruisers in the back.
Light cruiser affected by tractor beam.
Light cruiser side-view.
Light cruiser tower.
Light cruiser and escorts fly towards CIS fleet.
CIS fleet seen through light cruiser's windows.
Bridge of Venator, with displays.
Computer-displays onboard the CIS destroyer.

Re: Clone Wars season 2
I think you meant smaller Munificents.
Anyway, these were two really fun episodes. The AT-TE shooting down the incoming missile was freaking cool.

Re: Clone Wars season 2
Well, the EU didn't exactly follow the movie's naming convention. "Milord, ship approaching. X-wing class".VT-16 wrote:I liked the first for its messing with EU ship rules. "Three Cruiser-class (the Venators) and four Escort-class (the Consulars and that new light cruiser)"
I don't recall "X-wing class" being used in any EU literature.
The second episode just astounds me with its very rich visuals & designs on Saleucami. Bugs near lighted windows. Floating motes in the air. A whole range of flora designs. All this interspersed between two sets of diverging storylines. I wonder if this paves the way for Rex deserting (instead of dying as I originally thought) before Revenge of the Sith.
Re: Clone Wars season 2
The whole set-up with the clones recognizing domesticated animals and seeing an actual Earth-like homestead (unlike the sci-fi version seen in ANH), made me realize the civilian aspect of the universe once again. I really wish the series would go more into the impact on ordinary people caught in-between fire fights, even if I wasn't too enthusiastic about the family as a whole. The mother was interesting though, even the production team and voice actress commented on how she looks like she's been through a lot and that there's an unspoken history behind her. Nice bit of character design.
Re: Clone Wars season 2
So Twi'Leks and humans can breed. Interesting.

Re: Clone Wars season 2
The episode guide says the kids are 5 and 4 years old. The clone found them after Geonosis, so they're his adopted kids, not biological ones.
Re: Clone Wars season 2
I doubt Captain Rex will ever desert - the attitude he's taken in both episodes where he's encountered aberrant clones (i.e. the traitor and the deserter) has been very clear, he won't abandon his brothers.
Besides, killing him off would be a great way to finish off the series (which one assumes they'll end before RotS, creating yet another contradiction with the original animated series / Labyrinth of Evil, probably ) - heroic last stand or something like that.

Wookiepedia has been changed, someone added a separate entry for Grievous' enlarged Recusant-destroyer.

That only means that he won’t desert alone. Re: Clone Wars season 2
Nah, I just don't buy it. Why would he leave? The cartoon is going to end before Order 66 (or will they do an episode after it's over? That'd be really interesting, and a great opportunity to see Darth Vader in cartoon form ) so I can't think of any motivation.
And I hate the idea of Clones having a choice of whether to obey Order 66 in the first place- look at how Cody immediately obeyed the order. No hesitation at all.
