Now for the fat carrot. They, like they do, are offering a lifetime subscription for the price of two years at $239 with the 12 month being $119. Apparently...you get a playable Borg for doing the lifetime sub, with some interesting abilities to boot.

Now for the closed and open beta, the game shows some life, so the question beggars. How many of you seeing yourself playing this more then two years.

I'm still having second thoughts on my preorder, let alone more than a year.

Looking at it now, the ONLY thing that makes me want to play htis is the starship designer... I'd personally just like to play aroud making various kitbashes and such, the game itself i showing to be of much interest.

Well keep in mind that each ship type only lets you kitbash between three classes and you can't deviate from the overall shape too much. But it's still fun, though right now I just run with a good old Connie.

Don't get it for the ship designer. It's extremely limited. A nice addition, don't get me wrong, but not a selling point.

Two years worth of subscription? If I remember correctly, the Champions Online lifetime subscription was worth 10 months, wich feels quite reasonable. But two years? Somehow I guess they are going for the hardcore Trek fans buying it regardless.

This might have been mentioned and if it has I apologise, but how does looting work. Do you frag enemy ships and get better weapons from the wreckage etc?

Occasionally. If you are in an "open team" (ie paired with whatever mouthbreather happens to be nearby), ships randomly drop a loot point that only one player can access. Ground troops drop more crap. If you set up your own team you can tweak the loot settings.

So there's no rush; you just kill stuff until your very own loot drops and pick it up at your leisure.

---

If you can, find a team of people you know and play with them. Half the fun is the interaction. I've just done some sector patrols with Charlemagne and it's a blast.

I made a Drow/Dark Eldar as my Commander. Well technically I call my variant of space Dark Elves "Ilnari" as basically Dark Elves who eventually conquered their surface, assimilated High Elves and then expanded into space.

My ship is the U.S.S Stalingrad.

No point in giving a screenshot of my ship though, its just the first base newbie ship.

Speaking of elves...
I'm pretty sure the one on the left is a Vulcan and not and elf but one can't be to sure.

The one on the right is my customer character with a random name. I was trying very hard to get the look of someone wearing someone elses skin. Looked great in the editor, like crap in game.

The one I'm really playing through with...

That last bit of your bio a refernce to SWG by any chance?
It was quite the joke back in the day how half the players went around with bios that amounted to "out for revenge after stormtroopers killed my parents."

I read it as complete satire, a Honor race knock-off. A fat cosplayer, and oh yes Stormtroopers killed his parents.

Yeah, it was a SWG jab (and general Star Trek Race of the Week jab, for that matter). Since I actually played a Stormtrooper in SWG with several of my friends, the "Empire/Stormtroopers killed my parents" Rebels were particularly hilarious. I felt obligated to carry on such a proud tradition.

No, no, no. Anything resembling Drizzt Do'Urden is an automatic FAIL.

G'nash'nak'fr'gh'nj'tof, obviously. G'nash is insulted by your human inability to pronounce his name, and challenges you to the ritual Nal'grof honor-death.

Is it something like the original Kirk-Gorn fight? Because I would so make a Gorn if they are available :D

As of right now, I am enjoying the playing, but not sure I'm going to spend more money on it after this beta. The game has huge flaws in it, as if they did not play the game before throwing it out to beta.

For example, you can load your ship out with nothing but photo torpedo tubes. Sounds like a decent idea, especially in group missions where you sit back and wait for the opening to pick off that nasty Neh'Var. But apparently all torpedo weapons share a cool down. So you can only fire one at a time, and they all go into cool down. Cryptic says this is the way it was intended to work... EXCEPT THEY HAVE A FUCKING FIRE ALL TORPEDOS BUTTON! I guess it could be for firing which ever one is pointing at your target, but still it seems rather sloppy.

Not to mention its almost impossible to know what ship based abilities an officer has cause they clip out the top of the screen.

Also there still seems to be no solution to the game stalling for a few minutes as it tries to figure out how to switch you from space to ground mode.

Or the fact that leveling is just grinding the Secure Sirius Sector mission over and over, since it can be done in about 3 minutes rather than the 2-3 hours it takes to do a Patrol mission for 2/3rds of the experience. And also, those Secure instances can be 5 man, or 20 man, and there is no distinction when joining, nor is the mission any different besides the number of people in the instance(you sure don't get any more of a reward for it since killing anything only gains you 1 skill point).

We'll see how these problems progress over the course of the beta, but I'm not too optimistic considering their response to the torpedoes issue was "That is how its suppose to be."

I'm not sure but I think photon and quantum torps have seperate cooldowns.

...What's wrong with the torpedo thing? I was a little disappointed that my Escort with two forward torpedo launchers couldn't spam them like mad, but seeing as how the shared cooldown is shorter than the single cooldown, it's still an effective set-up. Combined with two tactical officers with torpedo salvo abilities and the thing is damn near instant-death to any target in front of it.
