Can you provide some screen shots of what the "Design your ship" screen is like? I want to know just how much freedom you have and what the UI is like.

So does anyone know what the point of the DS9 preorder costumes is? DS9-style uniforms are identical to the existing late-TNG ones except with undershirt and shoulder colors swapped. Which of course can be accomplished at the tailor.

I want to know just how much freedom you have and what the UI is like.
You get four drop-down menus (saucer, nacelles, struts, and the connector point), with three options each. That's it.

I can't seem to take a shot of the UI unfortunately, the game auto hides it when I take a screenshot and when I do a print screen and paste on a paint program I get a black screen. Quirk of my system I guess.

Heh, I picked up a tribble as an item during a mission to take out a gorn facility. A few missions later I unexpectedly got an 'inventory full' message and opened it up to clear some space to found I now had six of the damn things.

The starbase defence mission is fun. Maybe it's the image of a ten-foot alien rolling backwards while phasering a charging targ.

And while the models may be low-poly, the game can still at times be pants-wettingly gorgeous.

Ha, that's great. Earlier today I scanned a freighter searching for some missing explosives or something, and the trader wanted to sell me "Vulcan Love Slaves Volume 8", hottest holonovel of the alpha quadrant :D Bounty said it's some old TrekBBS joke, anyway, little stuff like that shows that Cryptic is really trying to deliver.

Right now I'm getting "server is busy" though :( And I just hit level 9! Damn I want to fly a T2 ship.

I was wrong. They adopted it but it's from the series.

I'm stuck at low levels. Damnit...

I have to admit I do feel myself tempted, but if I signup to another MMO before I have a job my girlfriend may just beat me to death.

"Design your ship" with UI. (PrintScreen + paste to IrfanView worked for me)

And damn Cryptic should have blocked names that are used in game. (Or I should google first before picking a name...)

Four choices on windows and material. Material changes base skin (gray, bluish, goldish?, dark).

Well if it is like any other MMO, there'll be some kind of filter at work once it goes live. There's U.S.S. Enterprises, U.S.S. Intrepids, U.S.S. Kobayashi Maru etc. flying around, and no other MMO allows names that are that heavily associated with first rate canon sources (e.g. no "Conan" in AoC and no "Samweis" in LotRO). I'm betting that filter thing just isn't online yet.

Also, I just had a real cool moment when fighting some Klingons: a Bird of Prey cloaked right after I fired a torpedo salvo, and the torpedoes still hit her and the cloaked shield-less ship went boom. It kinda felt really Star Trek :)

Cryptic has announced on the forums that the current beta servers have hit capacity far sooner than expected:
This is really amazing! We have hit the limit of how many players we can fit on the server right now!

This is one of those times where we're both sad, and glad. On the one side, you all enjoy the game so much, we can't squeeze anyone else on to the server. (I can't log in right now either! )

On the other side, we really want to let you all on the server! So, here's what we're working on:

1) We're increasing server capacity. We have new machines coming in to add to the server, and we've put a rush order on them. We're going to bring them online as soon as we can.

2) We're working on software solutions as well. Our development team is working night and day to be able to get as much power as we can from each machine, and we're focusing on increasing capacity, and server stability.

For now, all we can say is, please keep trying. We know it's frustrating. Please keep trying though. You never know when you might be able to get in!

Thank you for your patience, thank you for your support, and thank you for your interest in Star Trek Online!

Damnit, something's messed up and the mission list now crashes my game :(

Also, apparently there's bug that blows up PSUs. Seriously.

I've not been in OB a lot (after spending time in CB, I'm sick of the opening levels), but I've found the odd surreal moment. One of my original complaints was that most of the missions seem to drop you in rock-filled space near a planet. So, when I found an mission in actual deep-space, I was rather impressed. Until I crested the asteroid I was heading for to see another identical one behind it. And another one behind that. and so on.

Image

Well, I thought it was funny, and am assuming it's a bug. Last time I was there, there was only the one.
I love the way the Federation asteroid colonies keep a TOS sort of feel to the exteriors.

Inside though, most places look a little bland. Then I found this one on an asteroid base, with holographic text scrolling down the walls and starcharts on the skylights, during a non-combat mission fiding out what happened to the guys aboard it.
Image

Also, obligatory beauty shot.

According to wikipedia, "the Mohorovičić discontinuity is the boundary between the Earth's crust and the mantle."
According to Starbound, it's a problem solvable with enough combat drugs to turn you into the Incredible Hulk.

Is there a good dictionary somewhere with MMO lingo? because I'm having trouble following half the team chat.

Watch the South Park episode on WoW :)

But ya I'm definitely seeing the direction the game is going, I got yelled at by several dozen people in chat when I said "damnit".

This is an overview explaining rudimentary terms. And well, it's no big deal to just ask in team chat if anything is unclear to you ;)

I got bored with cruisers and tried escorts instead.

My new ship.

Also, Yay, Defiant bridge.
Though I hate how the captain's chair flickers and you can't actually sit in it without emotes, it being used to transport you out of the bridge. Yeah. You beam out of your own bridge.
I'm assuming it's all a placeholder and later they'll make it more immersive.

Yeah, bridges are a very recent addition - they were only added in the last weekend of CB IIRC.

How's that for suck: I just made 11, got a light cruiser, altered the classic connie refit a little bit (just new neck and pylons for a start) - and then the game crashed when beaming out and now I can't get back in :D Ah well, time to go to bed anyways :D

I'll post screenshots of my new U.S.S. Wallenstein tomorrow.

4 levels to go until I get a new ship. This would go a lot faster if I could play more than an hour or so at a time.

EDIT: yeah, you're still marked as in my team but logged out. The Connie looked nice though, in the three seconds it was in-game.

That is quite odd considering the profanity filter. I've never had anyone complain and I swear quite a bit. You would too if some Gorn douchebag uses metal-eating clouds of green death.
