Seconded. It's sorta awesome being the Deus Ex Machina 11th hour save for once. :)

As for cruisers, I'm really torn. The second engineering station is Godlike, absolutely sex-on-a-stick, but my science vessel is more maneuverable and has heavier shielding, at the expense of hull plating and an engineering station.

I'm torn between escorts and cruisers right now. Escorts are fun, they're very fast and maneuverable, and do awesome damage, it's almost like being a fighter between all those big ships, zooming around blowing stuff up left and right.

But cruisers are "real" starships, in comparison escorts are just shuttles with megalomania.

Guess I'll just have to keep around both classes.

Thanks for leaving me alone with that Negh'Var battleship by the way. I'm fine, 3% health but fine. Glad you asked.

You know as far as the plot of the game goes, such as it is, the Klingons are complete assholes.
Yeah sure in DS9 when they were the antagonists they were pretty horrible too but here it's just a whole new level of "Hey, we're a bunch of snarling war criminals!".
Maybe they don't want you to feel guilty as you blow up enough Klingon capital ships in one fleet action to be promoted to Grand Admiral of the Universe. Ah well fine by me, never liked the drooling space cave men anyway. To arms!

What I find kind of hilarious is that the main story plot is basically an a subversion of what most of us have bitched about regarding Trek at one time or another i.e. Such and such appears for one episode and is promptly forgotten.

Basically the Klingon pushing the war is running around trying to get his hands on all those uber-weapons that popped up once and never showed up again.

Oh and did you play the next 'Episode' after City on the Edge of Never?

Well, I am quite certain that once all the SDNers and/or Spacebattlers start moving en masse all opposition will fall before the real masters of Shock and Awe...

Yeah that was great. Spoiler
Interesting that this version is totally immune to anything except the Klingon super-torpedoes, even when an ally ship charged right into it's mouth and exploded.

Fuck.

So, a friend of mine (who was very resistant to the idea of STO) actually has preordered, and thus forced my hand on the issue. I log in to Amazon (wich had the game for about 30€, with a neat Borg Officer) and find out the thing has sold out. Great.

About 10 minutes later I check the site again and find a third-party retailer offering the game for 60€, and furthermore, they state that the game does not include the pre-order bonus. So I'm guessing someone made several pre-orders of the game, and is expecting to re-sell the spares at twice the price, without the pre-order bonuses, of course.

...

...

...

WHAT THE FUCKING HELL?! :finger:

So, unless Amazon puts up more copies for preorder, I think I'll wait for retail. I'm a sucker for game boxes, and the other alternative I have is the Atari digital download, so fuck it.

Woah, something like an upcoming MMO being sold out, is that good for the publisher or does it speak of the publisher's incompetence? There's probably tons of people who still frown upon digital downloads when buying games. Anyway, I'm glad I ordered last week ;) I also ordered from amazon.co.uk, because even with shipping from the UK to Germany it's still cheaper than what amazon.de charges for it (I paid ~ € 32 versus € 59,99 for the "Amazon exclusive Gold edition" (includes the borg bridge officer), and I'll gladly take into account 2-3 days of shipping instead of being ripped of by German video game prices being higher without real reason)

But I checked, it's still available from amazon.de, so you can just order there ;) :D

Too bad I don't speak german, so I can't make heads or tails of the site.

I'm suspecting the problem is with the beta keys, since apparently they are limited and the cut-off date was the 7th of January, and people have had trouble receiving theirs, so they might have taken it off to fix that, or not. I'll give it a day or two, then I'll see if I can get it from germany or norway or something like that

It probably has to do with most of the preorder bonuses being crap, the only two that stand out at all are the Borg bridge officer and the Constitution starter ship.
The others are boring, generic offal that don't offer much improved stats over in-game stuff.

Yeah but it's Amazon, everything is very it's on the English site, too ;)

Anyways, since the German version including the borg officer is still up for sale, I don't think that they took it off on purpose. Seems like it really just sold out.

I know it's Amazon and it should be shameish, but I really don't want to risk entering sensible information in the wrong form or something (there are differences accross sites).

I hope that, seeing the demand, Amazon.co.uk gets more copies or something. I guess what happened is that you germans bought all our copies just because yours are more expensive. How dare you?! (And no, no spanish Amazon yet, so UK IS MIIINE! )

Hehe. Actually not that many people buy abroad, probably because there's plenty of people who don't understand English well enough (and who are too lazy to make any attempt at getting better at it) to not a give a damn about missing German language. (I know this is pretty redundant because most games are multi-language nowadays, and with MMOs it matters even less, because you can download the client in any language) Gamers like me who prefer the original version (as long as that's English) to enjoy better voice acting and avoid often pretty horrible translation are a minority.

I have no idea what's going on tonight, but the game is crashing on me like a motherfucker. Before today I had maybe one crash, but it just doesn't want me to see Bounty get a T2 ship, I guess :(

It's been running normal for me - a few places with unusual lag but nothing earth-shattering. Is it actually crashing or just disconnecting you?

I've just been on it for the last few hours, no major problems save a bugged mission and my usual lag. ((7.5! Soon, I'll have a new ship, sooon...)) One of the guys in my team had an issue getting into a mission, but it self-resolved.

Speaking of bugs at least sometimes they can be atmospheric.

Pun kind-of intended.

Also, my away team as of earlier.

Yeah, there's me and my science BO in the background :D

It's crashing right back to desktop for me, at instance changing. And then it needs two or three tries until it finally logs in ("You are not allowed to connect to this server at this time"). Too much of a bother right now. Like a good little beta tester I filled in the "why did it crash" text field every time, though.

Heh. look at all that fancy crap. That funky suit of armour and the disruptor rifle my Tactical's got are literally the only drops I've had. heck, the Saurian's still a generic redshirt. But, I still seem to work well enough so what the heck.

If your looking for decent loot drops then your best bet is to do Breaking the Ice fleet action in Pi Canis sector block. Its not something you can do alone, its meant for fleets afterall but if you hook up with a decent group you can blaze through quite happily. Top scorers get random prizes, usually unique gears at MKIII.
Other than that, doing the highest tier missions will net you MKIV gear or browsing the exchange. The other route is to go into PVP, you earn badges which can be used to trade for the highest stuff available at the K7 station in Klingon space. They let you get MKIV disrupters, plasma weapons, phasers armor etc. both ground and for your spaceship.
However, because of that the PVP queues are packed so getting into a match can be a real pain in the ass. Fortunatly, doing Breaking the Ice has gotten me quite a bit of ground equipment to either sell or use.

That said, Cryptic are supposed to increase the level cap this week and I presume open up more space. Once Alpha Centuri is opened the Federation will have access to better research / vendors. It also means we get to shoot some Romulans instead of Klingons and Gorn.

I'm barely above Mk.I at the moment, to be fair. I'm not complaining, I've done most of this before in Closed, which is why I'm not really caring a whole load about Open. I'm just messing around.

By the way, while contemplating the alternatives to Amazon, I found out something that will piss people who didn't notice it to no end.

The preorder TOS-era Constitution-class ship has the following caveats:
  • a) It cannot be customized or colorized at all
    b) It only lasts for 20 in-game days HOURS, and then *poof* it's gone.
Source:
Constitution Class Ship
Shortly after the tutorial, a player assumes command of a ship. A player can choose either a standard Miranda class or this exclusive, the Constitution class ship. Players fly around in a non-customizable replica of the TOS ship beloved for decades (the textures and components cannot be altered like other ships). Players control this ship for roughly 20 hours before being promoted into the next class of ship.
Mind you, the Borg bridge officer cannot be customized either.

....

BUT IT DOESN'T EXPIRE!

Anyway, just a heads-up for whomever wanted the TOS connie.
