America, the Censored ...

Re: America, the Censored ...
Way to turn "vast majority" into "100%". How the fuck is someone supposed to interpret "all about" as anything other than observing a pervasive pattern? And taking what you wrote at face value is now pedantic? Is this the goddamned Twilight Zone?
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Yet again you're being a pedantic fucktard. It doesn't matter whether it's "vast majority" or "100%". No normal person is going to interpret that phrase to mean that Christians have little or no opinion on any aspect of childrearing other than exposure to undesirable ideas; just that their opinions on undesirable ideas (you know, the subject of this thread, which people don't normally have to specify that they're talking about in a thread discussion) are all about isolation, which they are. Hell, that's right in Christian doctrine itself, for fuck's sake.Surlethe wrote:Way to turn "vast majority" into "100%". If I'm being pedantic, you're being incredibly defensive. I don't know anyone who would interpret you as saying that they have little or no opinion on any aspect of childrearing other than exposure to undesirable ideas. Instead, you were implying a pattern in all Christian childrearing arguments, and I was wondering where you got that, not trying to do some weaselly "oh hurr hurr hurr evidence plz". Looks like I screwed up on context, though - my bad.
PS- If you want a real nitpick, here's one: there's no "Christian" doctrine. But that's neither here nor there, since we're both talking about American/Canadian evangelical counterculture. Speaking of, it's worth pointing out that removing from society isn't just about evangelical children; it's a characteristic of the entire counterculture. Only makes sense that they'd want to do so with their kids, too.

It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn't feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.

I wonder if they will ever try to censor this dictionary. its not as prestigious as Merriam Webster of course. Google lets fundamentalist do what they wish they could do in real life, ignore real life. But wish shakespeare specifically, how do you weed out all of the rowdy debauchery inherent in his style, and once you have... what the hell is the point of it anyway? That's like Rugby without all the physical contact Rap without the swears pepsi Han Solo digitally shooting second Helman's mayonnaise.
Edit: Firefox didn't point out that I misspelled "dictionary" and the irony of doing so stayed with me. Fixed.

Well that's the thing isn't it? A lot of fundie censorship inevitably boils down to "I don't like it.", with a rigorous peppering of whatever bullshit rationalizations they use to justify it.Themightytom wrote: But wish shakespeare specifically, how do you weed out all of the rowdy debauchery inherent in his style, and once you have... what the hell is the point of it anyway?
