I don't think this is a sign of Cryptic's planning. Events staged in beta are not the norm which means that Cryptic was nice enough to do this for everyone. The word through the rumor mill is that this event was setup at the last minute, so while they probably did learn where they could make improvements I doubt it was in the area of event planning and more so in the area of their servers capabilities.

Didn't WoW just spawn endless waves of elementals to end Beta?

Well, at least I managed to play a bit of the tutorial, as well as try and create a Gorn. Not bad.

DO NOT RUN ST:O FROM STEAM

If you've pre-ordered through Steam and were planning on playing in the headstart and by chance you haven't done so yet, DO NOT DO IT. Someone fucking royally screwed the pooch and if you try to run ST:O via Steam it will delete your client without prompting and force you to download the 10 GB client again.

Umm isn't that because you were playing the Beta version?

No the beta client will work just fine, it just needs a small patch.
Steam on the other hand fucked us over big time, it will try to redownload it every time.

Well it shouldn't matter where you bought it, should it? Just search for another download source. It's a MMO client, there should be torrents and dozens of http links to get it.

Also, if/when I get the game, I will proudly join the stormtrooper-killed-my-parents-tradition :D I think it's hilarious.

But that's the problem. One does not want to download it again, because it takes 10 god damn hours and eats a ridiculous amount of bandwidth.

Half an hour before headstart began, I logged in, patched from beta to live, and got in game (just wasn't allowed to make a character yet). So I went off to watch Obama's speech for an hour, and came back only to discover Steam decided to delete the entire client without prompting, necessitating I download the entire damn thing again.

Yeah well, it sure does suck - I just meant that once you now about it, just don't use Steam to download the client again.

Uh...Steam works fine, was in OB through it, and now I'm using the same client to play headstart. What the fuck are you people doing wrong?
