I´ve suspected that for along time. I even suspect that using a lot of hand free devices is even worse than a regular cell phone. A lot of hand free devices are have such a crappy sound that you have to concentrate really hard if you want to understand anything.
Re: Vehicular cell phone use ban ineffective?
Actually, Ontario has taken steps to ban hand held CB and 2-way radios as well, which is another thing the trucking industry here in Canada has issue with (the other being all trucks operating in Ontario being limited to 105 km/h, which is also stupid, but not something that affects me). This has given the radio making industry the impetus to start looking into hands-free 2-ways (and CBs are going to be dead soon enough anyway).

How many roads do you even have with speed limits over 105?Phantasee wrote:Actually, Ontario has taken steps to ban hand held CB and 2-way radios as well, which is another thing the trucking industry here in Canada has issue with (the other being all trucks operating in Ontario being limited to 105 km/h, which is also stupid, but not something that affects me). The highest speedlimits in AU are 110km

None that I know of outside of a racetrack. The official speed limit here is 100km/h, but the unwritten limit seems to be in the 120km/h range. Once you get out of the city you can often cruise along at 120-130km/h without getting a ticket.JointStrikeFighter wrote:How many roads do you even have with speed limits over 105?

Lusankya: Deal!
Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.

Out West, most divided highways have a speed limit of 110km/h, with most traffic moving at about 120km/h. The issue is that with a 5km/h difference, you'll have Ontario trucks being passed like crazy when they come out West (or Western trucks that operate in Ontario, and therefore are fitted with the governor). Increasing the number of passing events does not increase safety, especially when trucks are involved.
The governors came about thanks to politicians playing politics instead of trying to advance public safety. People are scared of the big bad trucks, so let's slap a limit on their speeds, even though speeding trucks isn't an issue compared to speeding cars. People should be scared of trucks, and treat them with the respect any 45-65 ton piece of equipment deserves. Frankly it's an issue I could go on and on about but it's off topic.
The trucking industry has taken issue with Ontario's hands free law, asking legislators if they forgot about CB radios, and the legislators saying, "Nope!" I'm not against the ban, because they did give quite a few years of lead time before it's going to be enforced, and it means we'll get hands free 2-ways. CBs are obsolete as 2-way radios are coming out that have much larger ranges, and some of them have more channels than CB (limited to 40 channels).
