My iPod's quick playlist consists of:

50 Cent - Corner Bodega (Coke Spot)
50 Cent - Ghetto Qu'ran (Forgive Me)
50 Cent - Gun Runner ft Black Child
Feeder - Buck Rogers
Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone
Eminem - Soldier
Eminem - Sing for the Moment
Jeremih - Jumpin'
R. Kelly - Be My #2
R. Kelly ft Keri Hilson - Number One
Eminem - Kill You
Eminem - Criminal
Eminem - Déjà Vu
Eminem - Guilty Conscience
Dragonette - I Get Around
Dragonette - Take It Like A Man
Dragonette - Jesus Doesn't Love Me
Dragonette - Black Limousine
Wu-Tang Clan - Shame On a Nigga

actually, put in the entire 36 Chambers album.

I realized I had never listened to 50 Cent's unreleased debut album before, Power of the Dollar. I also got back into Eminem after a long time (partly because his last album, Encore, was a complete fucking joke that he probably put out to prove he could get another platinum plaque without trying). The Dragonette is their first album, Galore, which I hadn't heard until now, either. The Wu-Tang is because I haven't listened through their discography in a while, and I want to touch base before I give 8 Diagrams a proper listen (I'm behind, I know).
The rest I've heard on the radio, or wherever.

My CDs in the car include some of the above, plus some Young Jeezy from his TM102 and Recession albums, some Keri Hilson, and some Thunderheist, as well as some Raekwon from Cuban Linx... II, Little Boots, Sharam, Billy Talent, and Lady Gaga..

That's a lot of talking over a drumbeat you listen to, Phant.

At the moment, I'm listening to the Silversun Pickups new album, Swoon. It's fucking aces, if anybody wants to know my opinion on the subject.

I'm listening to my wankily-titled American Underbelly playlist:

Blitzen Trapper - Black River Killer
Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues
Todd Snider - D.B. Cooper
Drive-By Truckers - Cottonseed
Drive-By Truckers - Where The Devil Don't Stay
Nas - N.Y. State of Mind
Todd Snider - Illegal Smile
Todd Snider - This Land is Our Land
Mike Cooley - Daddy's Cup
Drive-By Truckers - Let There Be Rock
Todd Snider - That's The Way The World Goes Round
Drive-By Truckers - The Boys From Alabama
Eagles of Death Metal - Kiss The Devil
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Drive-By Truckers - Puttin' People on The Moon
Randy Newman - Baltimore
The Clash - I Fought The Law
Chris Thomas King - Hard Time Killing Floor Blues
Todd Snider - Ballad of the Kingsmen
Drive-By Truckers - Zip City
Todd Snider - Alright Guy
Patterson Hood - Sink Hole
Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros - The Long Shadow
Everlast - Black Jesus
Gil Scott Herron - The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
Eagles of Death Metal - Whorehoppin' (Shit, Goddam)
Dropkick Murphys - The State of Massachusetts
Todd Snider - Betty was Black (Willie was White)
Big Pun - Twinz
Dropkick Murphys - The Torch

Needs an update, not least cause I got about three different versions of it floating around that need to be combined. And I'm slightly ashamed to admit it, but as soon as the new Hottest 100 gets released can see myself hitting it pretty hard for Dizzee and BULLLLLLLLLLLETPROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF alone.

And fuck me that's a lot of DBT and Todd Snider.

You're right Red, I should have read the OP a little harder. Although, to be fair, 50 Cent does quite a bit of crooning in his choruses. And you really should have a listen to R. Kelly's Be My #2. It's hilarious.

Jester, are you talking about La Roux? I listened to that album all summer long, and it's not particularly solid, but I did like In For the Kill, Bulletproof, Colourless Colour, Cover My Eyes, and As If By Magic.

I am interested in these Drive-By Truckers, though...

Yeah, Bulletproof is a bit of a cult classic with my mates. Can't see myself being keen enough to buy the album, though.

As for the DBT's - at the risk of getting cruel, their new stuff (though haven't heard the latest album yet) reflects the fact they're getting on a bit. Best albums are Southern Rock Opera and The Dirty South; Dirty South has better songs but Rock Opera is The Wire of, well, rock.

Blayne, where on earth did you find the Elfen Lied opening? I've looked everywhere for that! I'm also impressed that you found "Hare Hare Yukai" in Russian.
I have a lot of songs, but my current favorite playing list looks like this:

"April is in my Mistress' Face"--Sir Thomas Morley
"Billy the Kid"--Aaron Copland
"Fanfare for the Common Man" --Aaron Copland
"The Piano Duet"--Danny Elfman, from Corpse Bride
"Falling"--Julee Cruise
"Der Holle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen"--Mozart, from Die Zauberflote
"Concerning Hobbits" --Howard Shore, from Lord of the Rings
"Itsumo Nando" --Joe Hisaishi, from Spirited Away
Pavane, op. 50--Faure
"Rei I" and "Rei II"--from Neon Genesis: Evangelion
"Vltava" --Smetana, from Ma Vlast
"Simply Grand Minuet" --PDQ Bach
"Dichterliebe, Op. 1" --Schumann
"Wall-E" --Thomas Newman, from Wall-E
Add to that the Schubert "Winterreise" song cycle, music from many Gilbert and Sullivan operas, the entire Mozart Requiem, and some random John Williams, and you've got an idea of what my playlist is like.

Youtube of course.

Ignore the questionable subtitles
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qv8FY8ORZ2I

What I like to do is watch the russian youtube episodes of Haruhi on youtube but tab to the downloaded episodes (in japanese with english subs) and then mute it so I get it subtitled in english but russian in audio and using it to get an ear for the language.

Here's Desho Desho
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq5I-TBz ... re=related

And here's a comparison video of the Japanese, English and Russian dubs.

Here's Elfen Lied

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaV6eDvgiG4

Enjoy. :)

I don't use playlists because nothing I don't like is on my phone and choosing by genre is enough for mood.

Actually, I have a playlist for terrible j-pop and chinese rock. But all that moon language breaks my work browser.

Oh hey and a collection of audiobooks. Kaldor City lol!

I think I'm gonna have to include "Make a Man out of You" sung by Jackie Chan in Mandarin to my playlist, I think I'll recreate by Chinese music playlist roughly composed of China PLA marching Music, the techno remix of their national anthem, some rock I found on the Chinese Cultural Music Archive I found on the web and some other stuff.

I don't listen to playlists generally, I just listen to albums and jump from one to another as I get sick of them.

I listen to a variety of things, mainly Muse, Radiohead, Dream Theater and Pink Floyd.
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.

At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.

The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'

'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

Depends on what I'm doing. Normally, as with Adam and Stark, I just slap on an album or a genre, but from time to time I actually make up a playlist.

Only one I use with any regularity is my 'sleep' playlist which is basically just Massive Attack's Mezzanine with some of the slowest Juno Reactor tracks.

I have very specific tastes, I dislike purely instrumental music and prefer a chorus and lyrics whenever possible, also not all music is equally good and while some are interesting there are dozens of others I like to hear more often.

As I probably have around 70 russian songs in my playlist out of 150 or more, just an album doesn't cut it.

I don't really use playlists either, or album/artist collections for that matter. My tastes are far too wide and scattered to be organized that neatly. :P

Most of the time, I merely leave my song selection to the fates, or just choose them from the general list based on the mood I'm in.

But...I do have a leaning toward music that makes me think "oooh, wow, epic!" whenever I'm writing. It helps me to visualize the scenes I'm working on, in a cinematic way. :)
"I could while away the hours, conferrin' with the flowers, consultin' with the rain.
And my head I'd be scratchin', while my thoughts were busy hatchin', if I only had a brain!
I would not be just a nothin', my head all full of stuffin', my heart all full of pain.
I would dance and be merry, life would be would be a ding-a-derry, if I only had a brain!"
