Caprica 1x04: "Reins of a Waterfall" Talkback (Spoilers)

Post by JME2 »

Amanda Graystone's confession sends shock waves through the Colonies...

***

The Talkback thread for tonight's episode is up and I'm looking forward to this after Smallville's "Absolute Justice" tele-movie.

So are the colonies one unified nation now or independent nations? This episode seems to make it sound like they are unified.

I get the impression that they're something of a federation. Unified politically but with their own internal governments within that federation.

Lacy is fast becoming my new favorite character in the BSG universe. Her lets-drive-creepy-lady-mad routine was awesome. As was her "I am faster and I've got very sharp knees."

Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? It seems that the GDD isn't as much an Caprican equivalent of the FBI as I thought. Did you see their offices? They were falling apart. They record their interrogations on VHS tapes and their TVs are black and white. And apparently, before the maglev bombing, they had them investigating teenagers's curfew violations!

That explains the Columbo shit that Agent Durham was pulling on Amanda. They don't have the clout to do much more than that.

No wonder the Ha'la'tha can just walk in and murder the Minister of Defense in his own bed. The Caprican justice/law enforcement system is a joke.

Anyone else not sympathetic with the monotheistic people at all? I keep finding them really grating on my nerves whenever they talk.

I'm finding them very unsympathetic, actually.
So far there seems to be zero reason to actually like them.

I can only figure that at this point in time it's a very loose federation. Otherwise there's no reason to spend billions of cubits on building killer robots...there's no threat. We know Capricans have a low opinion of Taurons and I'm sure there's other biases and prejudices throughout the Twelve Colonies we haven't seen.

We know from BSG that Tauron isn't the only one. Capricans also have a serious problem with people from Gemenon, who are regarded as backwards, ignorant religious fundies. According the BSG timeline, they are supposedly different nations at this point, since they signed the Articles of Colonization in response to the Cylon uprising, of which we are seeing the seeds of now. By this point in history, they are more like Europe, I'd think. Seperate nations with a long history with each other.

Keep in mind that the Cylon War happened 40 years before they came back and this is set 58 years before. Chances are we aren't going to see the Cylon War or the formation of the Twelve Colonies.

From Razor, we know the Cylon War lasted about 12.5 years, so unless the series runs 7 seasons, or they do some BSG-like jump aheads, it is unlikely we will see any boom boom :) -- at least between Cylon and Human

Any bets as to how the hit on Greystone`s wife goes sideways? :P
"Of course, what would really happen is that in Game 7, with the Red Sox winning 20-0 in the 9th inning, with two outs and two strikes on the last Cubs batter, a previously unseen meteor would strike the earth, instantly and forever wiping out all life on the planet, and forever denying the Red Sox a World Series victory..."

Actually, since we know that the Cylons were involved in military conflicts between the colonies, we could potentially see a lot of boom boom as Caprica makes itself the head of the Twelve Colonies through its own strength and a lot of Cylon muscle.
