Stargate Resistance (Third-person Online Shooter)

Post by DesertFly »

Has anyone played this? I stumbled on it quite randomly; apparently it only came out today, but I've heard no new or hype for it.

There doesn't seem to be a demo on the official site.
It's built on Unreal Engine 3, and it looks okay, but info is a little scarce. I might will almost certainly pick it up if I hear some good things about it.

From what I know of it they've released this as a way to try and gain some income so they can finish Stargate worlds, they've have had money problems for a while now (although they say the game was already in development alongside Stargate Worlds. I've not see any reviews so I have no idea if its actually any good. Seems like they've made a planetside type game where you fight for control of regions on a galaxy map.

I have no idea how it plays, but it's obvious they've adopted animations, sounds and graphics from the MMO they are building from what I've seen. I don't have much hope for it, it just seems like it's been rushed out for a quick buck.

Is there a single player campaign or botmatches, or is this multi only a la planetside?

Looks like they scavanged SG: The Alliance into a MP-only game for quick cash.

Damnit. Why did they have to abandon the first ever SG-1 game in favor of a MMORPG?!
Even if the graphics of The Alliance were to be substandard as long as the story and the gameplay is catching I would have bought it.

It's kind of depressing when there are more high quality third party mods set in your universe than there are games, and you've been trying to make the games for a decade.

Stargate: The Last Stand (not sure if the community is still playing it actively) was quite a decent free mod for HL2. There's a (somewhat buggy) total conversion of Starwars: Empire at War for stargate too. The space combat is great, ground combat not so much (as with vanilla EaW).
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.

At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.

The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'

'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

Stargate shares a similar fate with Babylon 5 as far as games go. Constantly getting the shaft, cancellations and cheap knockoffs, only 3rd party modders ever doing it justice.

Did they ever release the single-player or bots for this? I played it a while ago (still got it on steam) but there aren't any servers.

Damn. No, there were never any bots released. The community got killed when a fatal bug showed up that stopped everybody from gaming with it. It took them a couple of days to get a patch out to fix it, but by that time the fragile player base had moved on already.

I was kind of hoping that it would have been revived since then, but it doesn't look like it :(
