TOS, How Many Episodes?
How many episodes were in TOS? Was it 72 or 73? and yes I have been watching South Park.

This is something I need to know, seeing as how im not smart enough to go back in time and ask Mr Roddenberry himself then you know, I appeal to the board ya?

That is because the Encyclopedia lists "The Cage" as an episode even though it never aired on NBC (It later aired in the US on the SciFi Channel). The Star Trek Chronology lists 79 episodes aired on NBC counting "The Managerie" as 2 episodes.Sir Sirius wrote:The Encyclopedia counts "The Managerie" as one episode and says that there are 79 episodes.
Interestingly enough, I just looked at my SF Book Club editions of the Star Trek Reader (James Blish's novelizations of the episodes) collection and noticed that counting James Blish's novel "Spock Must Die" there are 72 stories. I wonder if that might be where they got the idea there were only 72 episodes.

That's because each TOS episode is worth about 10 TNG episodes.Captain tycho wrote:79.
But it seems so much more...

So in Voyager's 7 years did they even make opening credits?Darth Wong wrote:That's because each TOS episode is worth about 10 TNG episodes.Captain tycho wrote:79.

TOS: 50 min episodes.
The rest of Trek: 45 min episodes (more time for commercials!).
The official site lists 79 episodes, going with the "2 part" 'The Menagerie' (as one episode... two episode 16's) and 'The Cage' (the original pilot, which has now been shown on TV in its full length version in color) as episode 1.
To sum up:
-80 full episodes.
-79 numbered episodes (episode 16, 'The Menagerie', which uses footage from 'The Cage' has two parts)
- 'The Cage' (the pilot) is episode 1
So for all intents and purposes, there's 80. ; )
Btw, glad to see the edit function is working!

With at least 15 of those 45 minutes being filled with technobabble. 30 in the case of Voyager.Kurgan wrote:The rest of Trek: 45 min episodes (more time for commercials!).

Yeah, I read that site too.. he had sex three times, used his charm eight times, and kissed a girl a bunch more times.
I guess people interpret every kiss and every wink/glance as sex, and that's how it works out. The legend of Kirk grows and grows!
SO NOW THE EDIT FUNCTION IS GONE AGAIN, WHAT GIVES?
Update: now it's back. Maybe I'm just forgetting to log in?
