The short version is that they're running with their front feet but walking with their back feet. Wierd. Pretty cool that we've been able to analyse it though.
What's more interesting is the last sentence that states that other studies have suggested the reverse - front walking but back running. Maybe the switch over at a certain speed, or different individuals have a preference?

The rear legs are noticeably shorter than the front legs which may have something to do with it.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Actually no. Most animals when they run get all four feet off the ground at some point, and usually only have two legs there.
Elephants cant do that, two legs would not support them and the stresses would cause severe injury, if not a good old fashioned fall and broken bones
