It didn't, but other factors in the game meant that it wasn't that big a deal.

You had to select units, click move, then click on the point you wanted them to go too.
You mean like Warcraft 1? Still got it installed here  .
Oh, man, playing that was an experience. Remember how it was also before you could do anything resembling group selecting, so you could only select up to a grand total of FOUR units by double-clicking it or some shit like?

As for the OP - well, fuck. There goes half the point of buying Command and Conquer: The First Decade.
I dearly hated the 3rd level of Dune 2 :D No group selection, and the only way quads could win the mission was en masse, so we concocted an elaborate staggered line so that they would arrive more or less at the same time

It wasn't so bad in later levels because all you needed to kill a base was a single escorted rocket launcher.

Ah, so Tiberian Sun is now free. That was my favorite C&C game after the old Red Alert games, which I got packaged together for the PS1 as "Red Alert: Retaliation". I must say, though, that I don't recall ever seeing the bombers shown taking out a bridge in this screenshot. I suppose it was a one time bombing run unique to one of the missions, and I just don't remember.

Hm, I've still to use the Google, but browsing the C&C site, it seems I'm out of luck on trying to install Tiberian Dawn aka the original C&C since I'm using a 64-bit version of Vista. I took a look at the FAQ, and although the inability to install on a 64-bit OS is addressed for Red Alert, it isn't for Tiberian Dawn. Anyone know of a workaround? I burned the ISO using CDBurnerXP. Do you think using a Virtual OS program would make any difference?

Just mount it in DT like everyone else. Why burn a physical disk?

That said, I didn't see any problmes installing on Win7 64.

Out of ignorance for how to deal with ISOs; to someone like me, it seems the most obvious thing to do.

I'll try this Daemon Tools program you mention.

Daemon tools is so easy to use. It's only a couple of meg. You right click the tray icon, select a virtual drive, and select "mount iso".

Then it just works.
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.

At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.

The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'

'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

Alternatively, just double click the iso file and it will instantly mount.

Well, only if you have the *.iso files associated to Daemon tools. If I double click on an ISO, WinRAR opens it (as they are simple archives) and get to explore the contents.

And yes, I purposefully associated *.ISO with WinRAR. Just pointing out that mileage may vary from one setup to the next.

I've tried mounting the C&C original iso with poweriso, and the install doesn't let me install it because I'm running a 64-bit version of windows 7. I tried running in windows 95 compatibility mode but it wouldn't let me, same error. "blah blah you're using 64-bit and this version isn't compatible" or some such. anyone know a workaround? I'd love to play this game again.

Some of those explosions don't look familiar to me, so that may be a screenshot from a beta version of the game. That said, I'm pretty sure you could force-fire your units to attack bridges, and sufficient bombardment would destroy them (bridges had little buildings on each end that you could send engineers into to repair them).

The problem is the 16-bit installer for the game. You may try what I did earlier to get it to work: use the "Complete No-CD game installation pack."

Is there a viewport resolution increase thingy for RA as there is for CNC? I can't find one, and I can't play in a hyperscrolling 33% menu window.

Those are Orca bombers, albiet slightly different than their final appearance.

C&C always has little odd things like that. You'll typically see something on the box art or the like that's not in the game, or things in the manual (case in point, the Tiberian Sun orca carryalls or Nod's super-long-range rockets in Tiberian Dawn) that never show up.

Yeah, but at least you could "group-select" - clicking and dragging a box open to select all the units within up to 12 at a time. Warcraft I didn't have that, so actually moving a group of units around was a major pain in the ass.
