Navyfield now has new nation, new server

Post by wautd »

For those who don't know it, it's an old and ugly multiplayer game but also free and can be quite fun at times. It's one of those games I find myself starting up for a quick match or two (but find myself playing 20 in a row). Plus with a new server where everyone can start with a clean slate it also has become a bit more noob-friendly.

You can download for free on the main site

I can feel the addiction coming back on :(

From what I heared so far, they behave like a mix of USN (mainly their armor) and IJN (torps) but I might be hugely mistaken.

Their BB's seem compact though, so that's good.

I had a hard time playing NavyField because of its awful visuals and sprite based nature. I actually feel bad about that, because the basic idea of the game is fucking awesome. Tons of customizable warships in big dynamic player campaigns. If some Publisher ever picked them up they could do really well with this idea. I'd kill to play a game like this if it was 3D and not top-down sprites.

Are free users still limited to only frigates and destroyers?

Nope. I got up to a Prinz Eugen CA untill I got bored since the last time I played. I don't know how it is now, but when I first played 2isch years ago, new players got an exp-bonus until level 30 o something. After that players who paid a fee could keep that bonus. Don't know how it is now (I got a gold acount when I reinstalled the game for some reason so I don't complain. For all I know, everyone has it now).

Augh. You can't do this to me!
I was just gonna have a look, try it out - and all went well until yesterday evening, when I suddenly had played for five hours straight. just one more match

After played some more they indeed have some nice dedicated torp boats. However, they pack some really, really scary guns on some relatively compact boats. Their top DD makes a Z99 look like a rubber duck or one of their battlecruisers has the accuracy of a sniper of crack, if crack made you should accurate like hell. It's like the range of KM with the damage of RM.

(I might be exaggerating but I wouldn't be surprised if they got nerfed a bit. I'm going RM myself this time, the KM line was a way too painful grind).

Now you know why the RN didn't want the French Navy to fall into German hands, all old jokes about France surrendering aside they had some impressive ships. I wonder how the Richeliu class (if they're in the game) match up to the RN Nelsons. They both had that strange three turrets up front arrangement.

Richelieu has 2 frontal turrets (or at least according to the ship tree). I doubt someone has one in game yet (although looking at the way some people grind, I wouldn't be that surprised).

That's what you get when you desperately try to fit a stringent arms limitation treaty? :)

That's fucking bullshit, about the only thing the KM had going for it was the accuracy & range of it's guns and their DD line being the best one (remember the cargo drop missions where you had weaponless Z99 racing for the objectives lol). Hell, Kriegsmarine's CL line is so weaksauce you're better off sticking to your Z99 and skipping the Koenigsberg altogether in favor of saving money for the MPro. To hear that NF has made them superfluous is rather disheartening.

On another matter how effective are submarines and how do the different nations compare in that regard?

PS I forgot that one of my old fleet's members gave me two Lv55 11/12 Gunners, so my experience with KM is a lot more forgiving than it could've been.

The Germans should be forced to play with an intentionally poor UI design to portray the shittiness of German Directors and C&C systems on their boats during the war.

Havn't got one myself (started on the Jap line but then the new server came) but they seem kinda fun due to their sneaky hit and run nature. People usually seem to stick to their conventional surfance ships, but the ones that are using subs I usually see rather succesfully sneak behind enemy lines to fire a few torps at a CV or BB. Once spotted, they don't tend to last long though.
