Andrea Friedman, actress who voiced the Downs Syndrome girl from the recent Family Guy episode says her piece about Palin's crocadile tears over the episode.

Andrea Fay Friedman, the voice actress who played the role of "Ellen" --the character depicted as having Down syndrome on the Valentine's Day episode of Family Guy, has responded to the criticism of sometime-Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Oh my god. That is fucking ridiculous. That really almost makes me angry, and I would be angry if someone actually said those things to my face. As I've mentioned before, my eight-year-old sister has Down syndrome. And the link you posted, it has some really inspirational material at the beginning, like this:

Andrea’s life is certainly very different from that which was predicted when she was born. She lives independently. When she is not acting, she works in the accounting department of a major law firm. She drives her own car and manages her own schedule, budget, housekeeping and social life.

This is amazing. This is inspiring. I only hope my sister can have a similar life.

First, I think it was admirable of Family Guy to get an actor to do that voice who has Down syndrome. I mean, they could have had a regular person pretend to have Down syndrome.

Second, assuming that Andrea can't have political opinions is extremely insulting.

This is being used as a pawn and not actually understanding political issues: When my sister was five, my parents had her at a "pro-life" protest, holding all sorts of anti-abortion signs.

This is NOT being used as a pawn and not actually understanding political issues: Andrea lives on her own, has her own job, drives herself, has a social life, and happens to believe that people with Down syndrome need to work to get beyond stereotypes and happens to think that Palin is using her son's Down syndrome as a political tool (which she is).

I hadn't caught too much of this until recently, But after reading that site and seeing some of the photos of Palin with The child in question, I would say it is blindingly obvious she is using him as nothing more then a prop to garner support. In every photo I've seen of her with "Trig" She seems to be basking in the glory of the audience and never actually looking at the child. Not one photo has her looking at the kid, if just to see how he is doing. He just seems ot be hanging on her arm, as if about to be dropped at any moment.

The fact that an adult With Down Syndrome has basically called her out on it is something of note. but as others have mentioned what is REALLY of note is the fact that this women was immediately attacked and dismissed by Palins supporters.

Palins false indignation of various people on the Left using comments like "retard" Pails in comparisons to her own supporters stating that Andreas comments and words either, can't be her own and must have been written by someone else... Or that she is incapable of understanding current politics because of her Down Syndrome. The Irony and Hypocrisy going on her is utterly Staggering

But that doesn't mean she doesn't care about her kid, no matter what her politics are. Totally agree. That's why it's so provoking (to say the least) that the right wingers on that site were saying she couldn't possibly have written that stuff about Palin, that she wasn't capable of it.

Also, if Palin's so interested in helping her son she should be investing her time in him rather than writing books and touring the country. I've seen the time my mom pours into my sister, and it takes dedication. It's rewarding, but it's not easy. But then, maybe Mr. Palin is staying at home and giving him that time. I wouldn't have a problem with that. I just hope someone is actually investing in him, working with him, doing therapy with him, etc.

Also, she is apparently too stupid to realize when she's massively contradicting herself, such as when she rants about the evils of "socialist" policies of taxing success while bragging that she pulled a Robin Hood and pushed a windfall tax on energy companies so she could give cheques to every Alaska resident.
