Harold Camping, the host of a moderately prominent international Christian radio call-in show, recently told his listeners that Satan has taken over "all" churches and that people of faith should do their worshipping elsewhere. Apparently, pastors all over the United States are outraged, with some attributing drops in attendance (and contributions) to Camping, whose Oakland, Calif.-based organization reported donations of $12 million in 2000. In related news, the FBI is now required to notify parents if a Catholic church moves into the neighborhood...

Great, let's scare the moderates and liberals out of their churches so they can seclude themselves in the woods and form a bunch of little right wing cults.

I'm pretty sure they could explain why Satan has taken over the churches. If God was in command of them, they'd all be as bigoted and hateful as Fred Phelps, I'm sure that's what they would say.

If Satan can walk into God's house and kick his ass out, shouldn't worshippers be more concerned about whether or not they're on the right side, rather than where to worship?

The guy's right, the Catholic Church is controlled by Satan, I mean, look at the Inquisition! And the 'asking' for money! And the child rape! If that's not Satanic, what is?

Edit: To the guy above me, the Catholic Church is not the house of God.
Say what you want, but I've been reading the Bible lately, and it's not really God we have to worship, but Jesus, for Jesus is God.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Remember when Camping wrote that book called 1986 (I believe) in which he predicts that the end of the world will occur in that year? That was great. That is how sane this guy is.

It's a common fundie scare tactic. They put the date of the apocalypse some time in out lifetimes to convert the gullible, and when that day comes and nothing happens, they just set another date in our lifetimes. Perhaps we should ask him why he always sets the date of the apocalypse in his lifetime, as opposed to some time in the far future.

This is funny: Once I was watching Camping on that cable show that he has (or maybe had). He sits in front of a group of people, takes calls and preaches. One day some caller asked him what ever happened with the date of the end of the world, to which he replied, "we don't discuss that on this show." He then hung up. I got a chuckle out of that.

Oh, the book was called "1994." You can check his other titles by putting his name in an Amazon search.

One doesn't need a degree to see that fellow is wrong. Anyone who's read the Bible even once can see he's speaking only his opinion.

But he shouldn't be declared a preacher or priest as he is not ordained. Besides, this can lead to a major misinterpretion of dogma. Do we need another David Carash.

Are you implying that if they have a degree, this should make a difference? If I read the Bible and discover something in it, and somebody screeches that no theologian will agree with me, why should I give a shit? Anybody can read the thing for himself, and apply his knowledge to it.

Asimov was a biblical scholar, and wrote one of the first tomes that tried to put the Bible into historical context. I'd say more about it, but I've wasn't able to finish reading the one copy I found...

Amazon has a page on it.

To get back on topic, that could be considered preaching by some...educating people about religion, even though his Guide doesn't touch on the spiritual aspects of the Bible.

Well, it's an interesting book if nothing else.
