Super Death Star! An oversized bankrupting super-weapon!

Post by Galactic_Juggernaut »

With all the designs of the Death Star II, except bigger, and badder! Take a look! This ones much more compact, only 10% more size is added, and a far greater crew and far larger hangar bays to carry a many times greater compliment of ships and an even greater firepower to surface ratio. The shields are also improved a bit.

Oh yeah? Well my spaceship is like two of those welded together with more than three times as many hot tubs and also the bridge crew are scantily clad women oh and by the way it's gold plated and all the guns are made of chocolate.

Juggernaut, welcome to SDN. I encourage you to put more thought into future posts - lists of made-up stats for a made-up spaceship without any reason given for its existence rank pretty low on the content meter.

Keeping this in OT because it's too nonsensical for PSW and too wank for Fanfics.

How about a remote controlled solid gold, gem encrusted death star?

:wtf: We have a term for this kind of thing in RPG culture we call it munchkinism. You want fries in that order of wank?

Sereously what's the point of all this? I mean Its more efficient to have it in the "smaller" standard size Death Star.
You will see the tears of time.

Congratulations, you now have put all your resources into a single spacecraft that has a maintenance bill as high as several other galactic militaries put together. Not only that, but you have denied yourself the ability to spread out your forces, because you have put all of them into one giant spacecraft that you could barely afford.

Meanwhile, other non-giant units are having a shortage of technical personnel and people because they are away building your giant ball of doom. Your logistic network is highly strained and you cannot respond to several smaller rebellions and rouge, armed units going about because all of your patrol units are busy guarding the building-materials for your giant ball. Unrest grows. Political opposition also grows because a, you are not ensuring security and b, you are building a giant ball of doom instead of getting along with people.
Politicians don't like it when you are waving a loaded gun in front of them.

Seriously, wasn't the second Death Star smaller? And wasn't the point of the first one to have a massive laser? Or just be a plot-convenient form of evil that had a convenient-weakness that could be exploited by a plucky hero in what is essentially a space opera fantasy?

The DS2 was 900 km according to Wookiepedia. Just on sheer size and resources this thing isn't really all that wanky, especially considering the speed with which the DS2 was constructed.

No, bigger.

Not entirely, you could still fit a planet-depopulating laser on an Eclipse-type Star Destroyer, which would be a far more efficient way of dealing with rebellious worlds. The Death Star itself was basically the Empire showing off and hoping that no-one would dare mess with them after seeing how big their balls were. At least until the Rebels decided to kick them there. :P

After conquering a hundreds of powerful systems, factions and the entire Galactic Republic maintenance shouldn't be a problem.
Not only that, but you have denied yourself the ability to spread out your forces, because you have put all of them into one giant spacecraft that you could barely afford.
All the Forces are more secure and can survive far better to fight, in the end, more battles. Plus with the technologies of the Superbattlestation they can do far more damage and conquer much more powerful factions.

The thing is built as a complete secret by worlds that have been mind wiped and have had their free will taken from them by Palpatine's manipulation of the Dark Side, over the course of several decades, he has no intetion of doing anything but dominating everything he sees, least of all geeting along with anyone politically, he is above politics.

No it was larger, it had even more advantages and could fire it's superlaser more frequently, this one is not just for effciency, although it's self-sustained by the World Devastators, which are even more efficient than the Death Star, and don't get me started on the Sun Crushers, this one will be both efficient and just to show off. With this Death Star a complete technical read-out would do the Republic absolutely no good what-so-ever, that's how unstoppable this thing is.

And so it isn't an oversized bankrupting super-weapon after all? How many "powerful systems" (Powerful in what way? Breaking farts?) are there which Palpatine did not already control or influence?
All the Forces are more secure and can survive far better to fight, in the end, more battles. Plus with the technologies of the Superbattlestation they can do far more damage and conquer much more powerful factions.
Forces? What forces? The ones which were bunkrupted by your oversized bankrupting super-weapon? Why would one super battlestation be more damaging and better at conquering others than the equivalent number of normal forces?

So your Galactic empire is bankrupted by a bunch of worlds. Which were mind wiped. Over several decades. In secret. Riiiiight.

That's what one of the Imperial officers in the movie thought about the original Death Star, and look how that turned out.
After conquering a hundreds of powerful systems, factions and the entire Galactic Republic maintenance shouldn't be a problem.
Yes, if they get rid of almost the entire fleet and dump all those resources into running this thing. On one hand, you have an entire galaxy's resources to run this. On the other, you will need the entire galxy's resources to run it.
All the Forces are more secure and can survive far better to fight, in the end, more battles. Plus with the technologies of the Superbattlestation they can do far more damage and conquer much more powerful factions.
And that's what they'll be doing, constantly, from now on. Can you imagine the drain this one piece of equipment will be on the entire galaxy's economy? You'll have nothing but rebellions all over the galaxy from now on, because you've made the population desperate by taking everything from them to pay for this.
You have to be kidding me. Unless you like spending all your time flying back and forth across the galaxy putting down rebellions forever, you have to give people some reason to feel loyal to your empire. The Emperor can't mentally control everyone all the time, and threatening them with destruction while taking all their stuff only works for so long before people get desperate.

Really, don't be too proud of this technological terror you've created.
For the glory of Gondor, I sack this here concession stand!
