I'm as avid a prequel hater as anyone you'll ever meet, but I must confess that I've grown to love the LAAT. In fact, I love it so much, I'll be happy to reuse it when (not if) I somehow strike it rich and buy the rights to Star Wars away from Lucasfilm so I can finally make episodes 1-3 & 6-9 my way.
I'll even hire Elfdart as a consulting producer just so I can have someone tell me what a dick I am the whole time.

Re: Attack Of The Clones... Damnit.
This is by far one of the stupidest comparisons I've ever read. Kay was Michael's wife. In AotC, Padme just met Anakin (as an adult) like a couple of days before he went on the killing spree. Also, Kay doesn't know Micheal killed his brother-in-law at the end of the first movie, since Michael lies to her when she asks him directly. All she knows is that he is the new Godfather. And in the Godfather II, she divorces him precisely because he is a monster. The only reason she's still at all associated with Michael in Part III is because of their children.Elfdart wrote:Then I hope you stay away from the Godfather movies because Kaye sticks with Michael Corleone when she knows he's a mobster and after she finds out he had just killed his own brother-in-law and a bunch of other people while attending the christening of his own nephew (the son of the man he had strangled). She's still loyal to him in the second movie until it's almost over. At that point she aborts his son and tells him, he calls her a cunt, beats her up and then kills his own brother. Surely she would have nothing to do with such a brute, right? But in the third movie, there she is by Michael's side once again.

Havok wrote:Nah. AOTC is the worst. By far. As I said, the score is awful. The dialogue is awful. The actual acting is pretty bad. The character interactions are bad. The editing is way off, the quick zooms are completely out of place. The Clones look weird. The story itself is completely stupid.
At least TPM feels like a movie. AOTC feels amateurish.
Everything in the first paragraph except quick zooms and clones applies to TPM as well. I didn't get that wierdness vibe from the clones mind you. For me, it's the lol moment when Yoda pulls out a lightsaber, the inclusion of the hammy-as-ever Christopher Lee and the mindless jedi killing (Take THAT you stupid fucks!) violence that elevates it above TPM.

A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.
At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.
The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'
'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

Feel free to quote where I make such a claim, or anything remotely like it. Until then, go fuck yourself.By this hilarious logic, if a movie ever shows any sort of reaction to anything, it must be okay all the time.
Until she has the abortion and brags about it, she does in fact come across as a doormat. She knows early on that her husband is part of a mob family, is wanted for killing a police officer, and watches as his own sister accuses him (rightly) of killing her husband. Yet she marries him and stays with him until near the end of the next film.Anyone who can watch the Godfather series and think that Kaye is some kind of forgiving saint is a retard.
Feel free to quote where I make such a claim or anything like it. Until then, go fuck yourself with your little straw man.I saw a movie once where people split up when under threat by a single murderer. Thus, it's always okay to do that, even in totally different circumstances.
Of course it's not possible for a character to be both. That you're so stupid you missed the part about 'being referred to again' is just golden. Nobody said she should split up with him; simply that it is totally ignored, and Padme is continued to be presented as a bastion of freedom and morality rather than an emotional cripple with codependency issues. Uh oh!
When Obi-Wan tells Padme that Anakin just killed the kids in the Temple, what is Padme's reaction? Does she sit and wait for Anakin to return like she said she would? Why... no! She runs off to find him herself and tries to convince him to run away with her and forget about acquiring power. She obviously suspects he did it or she wouldn't have brought it up when she found him. Now where would she get the idea that her husband would chop down a bunch of kids? Oh that's right, the scene in Attack of the Clones where Anakin says he killed a bunch of kids is foreshadowing for another massacre that happens later at the Jedi Temple.
In other words, she knew he did it but loved him anyway and thought she could save him. This is an example of what is known as a tragic flaw.
Heathcliffe claims another victim.

When ANH was filmed they didn't know that there would be a sequel, so I think calling it a throwaway line is accurate.

If your weapon can deflect blaster fire and protect you, wouldn't it make more sense to hold the sword towards the direction of incoming enemy fire rather than holding it overhead like what the amateur sword guys did? Unless the Geneosians and battle droids were up in the sky, shooting DOWN at the Jedi who'd have to hold their swords UP or something.

Re: Attack Of The Clones... Damnit.
A lightsaber blade presents a tiny surface area, thus it can't block the sonic weapon. But a lightsaber blade's effectiveness against the sonic weapon's wide-"beam" can be increased if one twirls around the lightsaber around in the air overhead, while ignoring incoming blaster coming from in front of you, like a silly amateur swordfighter? Because that's a proper technique for wielding a purely fanciful weapon and the right way grab a lightsabre as taught by the school or training manual for this.

Difference is that Micheal denies him murders whilst Anakin openly admits to slaughtering innocent women and children. Besides, there is a big difference between killing a police officer and killing a large number of children. In both stories a woman refuses to believe the obvious: the man she loves is a murderer who craves power.

I realize Natalie Portman is a very overrated actress, and Star Wars isn't exactly Tennessee Williams when it comes to dialogue, but it's obvious to anyone watching the movie that Padme is shocked with disbelief at what Anakin tells her.It didn't bother her in this film yet it does in the sequel.

Re: Attack Of The Clones... Damnit.
Let me say this again. Micheal killed a corrupt police officer. Not a good cop, a cop who was taking bribes from rival gangsters. Anakin killed a large number of CHILDREN.Sure is. One was carried out in a fit of grief-stricken rage while the other was a planned, cold-blooded assassination.
She even asks Anakin if the stories of him killing younglings are true. It is clear that she doesn't believe Obi-Wan for some reason. Even if she does and she is lying to Obi-Wan, it is still quite shocking that she would try to defend someone who has gone on a second mass child murdering spree. This wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't portrayed as a paragon of morality and virtue. Are you really this retarded? She's lying to cover for her husband because she knows Obi-Wan is going to try to kill him.
She listens to Anakin's confession with a complete blank face and then calmly says "To be angry is to be human". Then she marries him at the end of the film. It doesn't seem that she is at all bothered by his mass murdering spree.I realize Natalie Portman is a very overrated actress, and Star Wars isn't exactly Tennessee Williams when it comes to dialogue, but it's obvious to anyone watching the movie that Padme is shocked with disbelief at what Anakin tells her.
Nope, character inconsistency. No, just stupidity on your part.

The only thing that bugs me about it is how unforgivably lazy designers turned it into a space vehicle for the Clone Wars show, and the retcon is not that it's a similar looking spaceship (its doors are different) but in fact an LAAT (what does the "L" stand for, gentlemen?) It's got great open holes in it, it's as space-capable as an actual Hind helicopter. (MAGIC FORCEFIELDS! Cause those don't use energy and can't fail!)

The end of The Godfather is the culmination of the "fall" of Michael Corleone. After which point being a bloodthirsted right bastard is what he's all about as a character. Anakin is supposed to still be somewhat admirable and hasn't completely "fallen" yet in AOTC. It would be like Michael killing all those people at 1 hour 20 min and it be like, "Well...he's not that bad yet."Elfdart wrote:Then I hope you stay away from the Godfather movies because Kaye sticks with Michael Corleone when she knows he's a mobster and after she finds out he had just killed his own brother-in-law and a bunch of other people while attending the christening of his own nephew (the son of the man he had strangled).
