Really looking forward to this, with the new staff and the interesting trailers. I can't wait to see what they do to the TARDIS' design.BBC wrote:The new Doctor has twenty minutes to save the world, and only Amy Pond can help him.

Re: Doctor Who: "The Eleventh Hour" [spoilers]
Pitch-perfect. Absolutely pitch-perfect. It was a clever and exciting episode in its own right and set up the new Who series wonderfully.
Also, the new Tardis is a thing of gorgeously anachronistic beauty.
Not sure about the new credits though... the new theme is cool but lacks a bit of punch. Still, early days.

Re: Doctor Who: "The Eleventh Hour" [spoilers]
I was a little iffy at first. The very zany food sequence for starters. Here comes the New Doctor same as the old doctor? Certain sections of the episode were predicable and contained very obvious foreshadowing.
Still Amy Pond is an amazing companion and it was a reasonably lively plot despite the predicable elements. The New TARDIS interior was beautiful and loved Eleven's interaction with her. Green sonic screwdriver! Aka, something new for them to make a toy from.

I'd pay good money for a Tardis interior playset.Aka, something new for them to make a toy from.

I seem to recall a good few people calling that particular point when the first publicity photos were released. A plod with a skirt that short? Not a chance.Atlan wrote:Loved the little twist where the previews and pre-release pictures made us believe she's a police woman... She's a strippergram! ROFL!
And is Eleven a crap driver, still adapting to the new body, or did the Tardis get more seriously bashed about by the regeneration than he realises? Even Rose's missing year was more accurate than those jumps.

It was on fire during the first hop and only just regenerated for the second. With it finally being repaired I expect the random landings to become less frequent.Captain Seafort wrote:I seem to recall a good few people calling that particular point when the first publicity photos were released. First one, fair enough, but for the second one it may have just regenerated, or it could have been all shiny and new - it certainly seemed to be in decent nick. Regarding future jumps, she set off the day before her wedding. How many weeks do you you think she'll miss it by?Bounty wrote:It was on fire during the first hop and only just regenerated for the second. It's amusing Pond trusts him to get her back for a very specific time, when both the time jumps she's ever saw him make went horribly wrong, though. Obviously it make sense somewhat with the childhood encounter but still...
Re: Doctor Who: "The Eleventh Hour" [spoilers]
Not bad, not an amazing episode to me but not a total mess.
Interesting new dyanamic between the Doctor and the Companion, she seems to somewhat worship him but is also disapointed by him.
The Doctor Cam section was interesting and showed how he was different from humans and takes in everything.
Obviously the silence falling thing will be the plot arc this year, also the computer was apparently made by MYTH which will presumably be important later on.

Re: Doctor Who: "The Eleventh Hour" [spoilers]
I'm warming up the Matt Smith and Amy Pond; his opening episode feels much in the same vain as a RTD "event" episode yet with Moffat overtones, and a slightly more cinematic feel. This season's Big Bad is the Crack in the fabric of space (the Crack in Amy's room turned up on the TARDIS' scope towards the end). The best part of this episode was when we're shown the montage of the last ten Doctors to those weird eyeball aliens (could they be part of the Shadow Proclamation, a few tiers up from the ground pounding Judoon?).

Quite possibly. They are mentioned as interstellar police in some promo stuff I read. I liked the episode myself, it was not the best I have seen but it was far from the utter disaster it coudl have been. I liked the fact that he was still wearing Tennants battered suit and "borrows" some clothes like Paul McGann did

You know what?
I really, really really unashamably enjoyed that. And it's a long time since I've watched an episode of Doctor Who and I haven't cringed with embarassment at least once.

Really loved it. Just feels like a breath of fresh air after all that RTD stuff, The eyeball alien things were a bit iffy, but they're supposed to be something pan-dimensional, so l think that sorta explains their bizarre appearance.

I really enjoyed it , showed a good spectrum of the new Doctors complete bat-shit-insaness, and I suspect Pond will be a good match for that.

I very much enjoyed it. New aliens and a good plot. The only annoying bits for me were that the villain didn't seem to actually do all that much which seemed to be at odds with the importance attached to it and I thought the food scene went on slightly too long.
I agree with Bounty about the opening credits though, but in the end they're not what I watch it for so still 5/5.

I thought the Alien of the Week was a bit meh as well, although the eyeball aliens wanting to nuke the planet because "Prisoner Zero" may have been more of a political prisoner, since what it knew was more dangerous to the galaxy than what it could do. By the way all those coma patients may have been its victims and it's the second Moffat creature to properly kill characters (its rampage in that hospital ward was implied; like when the Daleks exterminated the inhabitants of Satellite 5 and when the Krillitine devoured the school staff ). I felt Matt Smith channelled David Tennant in some parts of the episode.Teebs wrote:The only annoying bits for me were that the villain didn't seem to actually do all that much which seemed to be at odds with the importance attached to it
The new theme tune is OK, but I need to listen to it a few times, and the BBC should stop shrinking the credits.

Re: Doctor Who: "The Eleventh Hour" [spoilers]
New theme une sounded a bit odd to me, but oh well, like someone above said, I don't watch it for the theme music. That's what the soundtrack CD is for (of which I have all of them from the new series, they're really quite good).
I rather like Amy Pond as a companion. She isnt as, well, dumb-blonde ish as Rose was, not as slapstick-stupid as Donna was and not quite so Martha-ish. Something different.
In your face but not over the top. Interesting twist with her not being a copper. And I liked the skirt.
I think the fact that she has been dissapointed by him in the past so many times will make it interesting to see how things work out with Smith.
I just love the brief exchange when they first meet by the crashed TARDIS

"yeah i was in the swimming pool"

Re: Doctor Who: "The Eleventh Hour" [spoilers]
Not just "channelled" - there were some bits early on where it felt that there were no changes whatsoever to the Doctor's personality. Given how he changed later on (especially grabbing the babbling idiot by the shirt front) I strongly suspect it was intentional, the Doctor's brain hadn't settled down properly, and it was Ten talking not Eleven.Big Orange wrote:I felt Matt Smith channelled David Tennant in some parts of the episode.

I thought it was great! We got an alien menace of the week and giant flying eyeball space cops, terrific in their newness. And even better, the sonic screwdriver was fried and he had to save the world without it! Sadly he got a new one, but oh well.
And how many 'I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry' repeats did we get? None, life is good!

Re: Doctor Who: "The Eleventh Hour" [spoilers]
I like the idea that it might have been a political prisoner. I'd forgotten about the come ward, that does make it seem a bit nastier. I thought its transformation effect was pretty well done with the way it got mixed up about which mouths to speak out of.Big Orange wrote:I thought the Alien of the Week was a bit meh as well, although the eyeball aliens wanting to nuke the planet because "Prisoner Zero" may have been more of a political prisoner, since what it knew was more dangerous to the galaxy than what it could do.
