I can safely say from experience that being bi (especially, as in my case, being unstable bi) SUCKS real bad on occasion. For me the unpredictable shifts in which way I am swinging tend to upset the chemical balances and emotions so when a shift is occuring (as was the case for about the last week or so) I'm in an exceedingly bad mood, generally depressed and confused, and it affects me rather badly.
Good example of how things are for me: up till about 8 days ago I was sitting at about 90/10 on the gay side, and actively interested in a guy at school. Right now I'm sitting at about 30/70 on the hetero side, still interested in that guy (more out of psychological "forcing" of attraction than anything else) and a couple of women. Last I checked going from one way to hard over the other way in less than a week is enough to fubar most people's emotional stability.
Personally I'd have to say that being bi has a few advantages (if you're stable, which I'm not) such as having a larger stock of potential partners and getting the best of both worlds so to speak. I would also have to say that a lot of the time being bi is rooted in chemical/hormonal balance problems rather than genetic, but I have no doubt that a good number of bisexuals got it via genetics (either outright, or the chemical/hormonal balance problems which are causing it).

See, I find there's a difference between finding someone attractive and being sexually attracted to them. I think many of my male friends are attractive, but I don't find myself attracted to them (I'm hoping this makes sense, because it sounds weird as I read it). *shrug* I guess I'm just trying to say there's a difference between the two.verilon wrote:Many a time.. but also many times has someone else been "straight" and been attracted to, or overly noticed, someone of the same sex.

It sounds like there is something going on that has nothing to do with your sexuality there Hyp. Sounds like you have some chemical imbalances that take your sexuality with them rather than the other way around.Hyperion wrote:I can safely say from experience that being bi (especially, as in my case, being unstable bi) SUCKS real bad on occasion. OK, I have a lot of friends who call themselves bi (including me) - not bu any means mostly female. A few of them (including me) are actually in long term heterosexual relationships.
You all know I move in a rather superficial crowd (OK, most of us are goths), so it's possible some call themselves bi in order to be cool.
HOWEVER, I fancy girls. I also fancy boys. I have a rather limited history in any case, so the fact that it's predominately male is rather meaningless. I think I'm bisexual. (and I heartily object to the word bicurious)
Questioning someone's sexuality is NOT COOL, and is nt going to help them figure it out. I have experienced a bit (not a lot) of hostility about my sexuality, mainly from homosexuals, who think that bisexuals are just 'experimenting' or 'want to be cool'.
So basically, David, figuring out your sexuality, especially as society becomes more accepting of gay lifestyles, if difficult enough without people dismissing it as something you're saying just to be cool.
Does it really matter? If someone syas they're bisexual and only ever has encounters with one sex, what's to say they would never be attracted to another? I think it's much healthier for a kid to believe they cna be attracted to either sex, then for them to force themselves into a hetero- or homo- lifestyle they're not certain of.

Yeah, you see it a bit at my HS, and my girlfriend says she sees it a lot at hers. She's bi, and I'm quite sure she isn't doing it to be cool. How do I know? We have similar taste in women.
I'll bet that sounds like something completely different than reality... oh well.
