They did change more than just cut out explanations (though with anime being what it is, I seriously doubt there was ever any intention to explain everything even under the best of circumstances, but explaining less than what was planned isn't any better). The thing is, there's really no full blueprint out in the open or anything. Just bits and pieces of what they were originally intending to do differently, before the series went from being broadcast at 1 AM Friday to 5 PM Sunday for R2 (ie: the target demographic shift that suddenly made getting ratings and obvious sales pitches much more of a factor). One of the few things that didn't change too much was the ending (or the gist of it anyway), which is why I do try to give the staff a bit of credit in that particular regard.speaker-to-trolls wrote: Ah, damnit. I'd hoped there was some kind of original plan for the series that would have made some sense.
It's a pain to track all the separate sources down though. If nothing else, I believe the audio commentaries on the DVDs do confirm a couple of things here and there when the participants aren't all just joking around (like, say, changing the outcome of the season one cliffhanger into something else). All the other stuff is scattered around.
Well, they could always try and do some damage control with that in the upcoming prequel manga or, if not there, then in whatever the hell the next animated project is going to be.Spoiler
I wouldn't bet on it myself, at least not yet, but that's still within the realm of possibility now that the Geass franchise is obviously going to continue.
