Lexx on Hulu

Post by Thirdfain »

This is not so much a conversation thread as a statement of fact. The totally bizarre, weirdly over-sexed cult SF show is now available in it's entirety on Hulu.

Things to look forwards to:

1. A planet-killing superweapon shaped like a penis dragonfly.
2. Cannibalism
3. Boobies
4. Terrible acting
5. Daring super-soldier hero rebels in miniskirts.

If any of these things appeal to you, I recommend you go watch some right now.

Oh, I see it's time for my yearly "It sucks that Hulu doesn't work out here" rant. :(

There are so many ways around such a restriction it's not even funny. Region is only a restriction if you are an idiot or lazy.

So how does Lexx compare to Farscape ? Is it true it inspired Farscape ?
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

It really is the sort of show that is hard to describe. Watch it and see if clicks. To me, it really suffered from the story arcs it was saddled with. The first season was pretty good, but after that it went down the tubes. It would have been fascinating to explore all the weird planets and societies in their universe, but there was this great threat they had to defeat, then the next two season saw them stuck around a single star.

It wasn't much like Farscape at all. The tone was more weird and humorous. It was sort of like a deformed hybrid of Baker/Davidson era Doctor Who and Red Dwarf.

Care to elaborate, or are those ways of the "we can't openly discuss them" variety? Because if that's the case, you can shove it.

This thread actually reminded me that I've been meaning to open a Hulu account; and of course the first thing I watched was Lexx episode 2.1 Mantrid.

I was pretty surprised at level of quality of the broadcast. I have a 24" wide screen monitor, and on full screen it looked absolutely fantastic, far better then I remember it being on my old 25" analog TV.

One thing that irked me though was the commercials. I didn't mind that they were there, but the show already had nature breaks in the broadcast. But the commercials seemed to start like 30-60 seconds before one of these breaks. It would be like show - 30 sec. commercial - 30-60 sec. of show - screen goes dark for a few sec. - show resumes. Is this normal, or is this a one off glitch?

The best description I can come up with is that it is to Red Dwarf/old school Doctor Who/Tribe what Spartacus is to Xena/Hercules/Legend of the Seeker. Ie. it includes the same concepts (in this case, weird sci-fi with twisted humour and cheap model effects and that static style camera that those shows are known for), but is a sexed up and bloodied up version. In actual tone, yeah, perhaps its relatively close to Farscape, except Farscape is a much more polished and coherent (most of the time) show, while Lexx has its softcore moments.

The part about coherent is important, I think. Lexx is, as far as storylines go, pretty incoherent. Still, it isn't a bad show to try out - you'll know pretty quickly if it is something you like.

Lexx was described as being the opposite of Star Trek in that its dark, morbid and shows a crew that is driven by their own selfish desires. Its been ages since I saw it but I enjoyed the initial movie and season.

Originally, Lexx was only meant to be the movies and if you just watch those it remains rather coherrant but they streteched it out on the slim thread left at the end. Sadly the actress that played the initial Zev left and I liked her better than the replacement. The final seasons of Lexx are also extremely wierd when they stop the exploring and get stuck around the same system. Didnt have much intrest after that.

I'm assuming he's referring to setting up a proxy in order to watch shows that are on Hulu from outside the US, which as far as i'm aware is legal in most places as long as you're using the proxy for legal purposes.

http://lifehacker.com/5504681/how-to-ac ... ide-the-uk applies to accessing Hulu as well. Might want to check your countries laws first, just to be on the safe side.

I watched the first three movies of Lexx and I have to say that I am bored to tears. I suppose it's not my cup of tea. I will probably watch the fourth though just for Eva Habenero. :P
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

The Lexx movies are pretty boring. They're good for a more in-depth understanding of the first series, but they're not that interesting on their own merits.

The second season has all sorts of fun things, like episode where Zev loses her virginity to half a planet of monks, and the one where they meet the little boy who turns out to be made up entirely of Mantrid drone arms (which then multiply and destroy the universe).
