Red Skies at Night
Anyone else feel sad when they look up at the sky in a city and see that when its cloudy, it glows a soft, diluted crimson red? (Its 8:06 PM here)
Ontop of that, when I'm on the other side of the mountian, the mountain ridge where the city is on the other side glows purple during nights. Does anyone else dislike the city lights at night. (Especially when they ruin nice starscape in rural areas.)

I live outside city limits, too. But I think it's rather beautiful when the sky is red and purple when the sun sets and afterwards.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

I live in a heavily urbanized area, so only the brightest stars are visible.
Just as an interesting side note, most of the street lights in the Santa Clara Valley ( 15 miles south of me ) are made in a way as too create less interference with the James Lick Observatory.

Ah, yes, of course. Those are indeed bland.
I don't think I've been in a city big enough to really see something that depressing, though. Most of it is very pretty here.

*after carefully rereading* Oh I see...well out in the country the above would be my reaction...Spanky The Dolphin wrote:I think they mean the polluting clouds that choke the skies, not the natural colours out in the country,

I live in Ft Lauderdale and we get shitty skies. One night a year or so ago I went outside and could see all Orion in vivid clarity. I nearly pissed myself it was so out of the ordinary. If you go outside at midnight youre lucky if you can see 20 stars.
And to make it worse, we usually have shitty clouds. They always block the sky so its fucking impossible to see anything. And theyre not the nice poofy cumulus clouds either, theyre the ugly nasty blanketting thick but whispy kind.

As a resident of Los Angeles, I can say that it's rather annoying to know that all the red sunsets are caused by our constant smog problem. The only time I know that the air is clean is after a long period of high winds, when all the smog gets blown out of the basin.
Otherwise, I can't even see the high-rises in downtown Los Angeles from my area.

I don't live downtown, but I also don't want to live here much longer. Santa Barbara sounds like a better choice, since I'm angling for a computer/engineering major.

Hell, sometimes you're lucky to see the hills from downtown L.A.!Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Sad that you can't even see the Hollywood sign from most areas in LA.
And I'm not exaggerating. At least the pollution is better than it was back in the '30s... when it was mostly white smoke and the population was gagging. (That is, if I got my facts straight...)
