Pretty naff really. Serves the important function of getting past the Dalek's last extinction (though once again not really explaining at all how they survived) and re-introducing them as re-occurring villains.

I thought the WWII motif was wasted potential really. The resurrection of the Daleks and the mystery of the WWII Tommy Daleks could easily have filled an episode each but maybe they were way of a repeat of the less than quality S3 Dalek two parter.

As for rating... Well it can't rate it as highly as last weeks so I clicked 2/5. Though to borrow a system from BO (shudder) its more 5/10.

It kind of did nothing... there wasn't enough character stuff to really see or get anything from the acting, apart from the android at the end, and the action was basically driven by the need to reboot the daleks. It was, as you say, odd. I've even got a hard time rating it - it had good bits, but there just wasn't anything to it - it seemed like it was really just there to do the reboot and to lay ominous groundwork for the finale, oh, and to conveniently rationalise why even after the Earth gets royally fucked around with in the previous series, that noone remembers. To be honest, we had the first episode show off the new doctor, the second episode show off the new assistant, and this one was there to just draw a line under the last series.

Maybe a 3? Again. Too much stuff going on, not enough actual plot beyond the needs of the series.

My actual opinion: The new daleks were neat. This episode was basically to set them up, though.

In my opinion, if suffered from the WW2 setting. Even if they did that, they could have avoided Churchill, and I would have liked it more. Would it have killed them to use America instead?

The threat to blow up London was a bit lame. That doesn't really compare to unleashing new daleks. I would have have them send technological information to the Axis powers or something.

The high point for me was the Davros-daleks nobly sacrificing themselves to be killed by pure daleks. It nicely illustrates that they're not simply hypocrites.

How Amy has forgotten all the RTD invasions of Earth is interesting.

Personally I'm giving it a 4 it seemed quite short and had some good boys own stuff (spitfires in spaaaaccceee!!!) but seemed rather shallow.

Making the robot feel human didn't reach me really, it might have made more sense if they got further into where he got the memories from, did the daleks replace and existing person or is he a composite?

The new daleks are very colourful I think we could have done with more of them maybe something from each of them. I liked the older Daleks lettering themselves get wiped out by their superiors, it really showed thier dedication to their credo.

I got the distinct impression that this started out as a two-parter, but got smooshed down into one part for whatever reason. Still a pretty decent episode overall, but a lot of the stuff seemed rushed and under-developed, especially the whole Space Spitfires thing (and are the clocks in my house wrong, or was the main body of the episode only about about 40 minutes long?).

I don't really like the new design. Too tall and the head's too small. I loved the WWII Olive Dalek though, you're right that them submitting to extermination was a good character moment; that Daleks do sincerely believe in their ideology

I think that that last bit is actually the important bit of the episode. Yeah, the Daleks are back. Woohoo. But nobody remembers them. But they DO WIN against the Doctor, which was quite nice.

This may have been a "reset Dalek"episode, but it plays the more important role of setting up this seasons Big Bad. And that most likely won't be the Daleks at all.

And frankly, I wouldn't mind the Daleks doing something positive just for once. If they're NOT the seasons Big Bad, maybe they can help defeat it. You know, no universe means no Daleks, so it would be to their own advantage to actually (blech!) help the Doctor. Probably will never happen, but, as I said, it would be nice...

I didn't like the space spitfires.

Specifically, I didn't like the way they were handled. The notion was good enough, but the idea that they'd somehow beat a dalek saucer's defences was stupid. (Let alone blow it up). The sight of dalek point defence guns blazing ineffectually was pitiful. It would have been better if the daleks hadn't had the power to activate their point defences and one of them had gone out to fight the spitfires instead.

Also, the shot of the dalek destroying the Stukha squadron was cool.

I agree you have much more imagination when it comes to those things :D I tried to come up with some ideas but they ended up sounding silly so I didn't bother.

I haven't caught all of the episode, but is it concievable that they were fitted out with some funky high-tech ECM-type system? Unless this notion is rubbished in the episode.

This Doctor is still a crap driver too; he was off by a month. If that doesn't improve soon, I think Amy should be worried about making it to her wedding on time...

I liked it, gave it a 4. My favourite bit was probably the Doctor threatening the Daleks with a self destruct button, and I leaned towards the screen and went "Wait ... that's a biscuit!". Awesome. Him hitting one with a wrench and provoking it seemed kinda stupid, though. And it's been said, but Amy not remembering the Daleks is very interesting. It might turn out to be something stupid, but is it possible that someone is altering the past? Hmm.

The first two Spitfires got destroyed without causing any real damage at all to the Dalek ship though, didn't they? I got the impression that if it hadn't been for the Doctor temporarily disrupting the saucer's defences, the attack would have been an utter failure. Plus, they were apparently fighting with weaponry that had been upgraded by Bracewell (which, admittedly, seemed to happen on a totally infeasible timescale).

Oh yes. I was hoping for the wrench scene to end with the dalek just paralysing the Doctor with its gun.

Didn't really like that. Seemed to channel nr. 10 a bit too much there. The Doctor shouldn't be stupid enough to attempt hitting a Dalek with a wrench. He should be too afraid to do so.
Just remember Nine's reaction when he's locked in with the Dalek, he nearly pisses his pants until he realizes it's powerless. And these most certainly weren't.

Since they started bringing the DALEKS back I have been waiting in vain hope for them to actually win.
Five seasons in and it finally happens. Or is it 31, because I don't recall if they've ever actually won.

Hooray! New, colourful Daleks are back. And they WIN. Good God, the bad guys actually win for once. And I am very grateful they got away without getting murdered by a deus ex machina as they are every other bloody time.

I voted a 4. The Daleks were cool, and the old Daleks submitting for extermination was good. Rather symbolic of Nu Who I think, the old stuff bowing to the new...

Space Spitfires, whilst interesting and different, happenned too quickly. I got the impression it was a sudden idea of the Doctor, if so it would have been far too quick. Alternatively, Churchill's line at the end about keeping the tech on THOSe Spitfires suggests they already had guns and pressurised cockpits for hypersonic flight, but were only put in space with the gravity bubble. Dalek point-defence was probably not up to scrath due to damage or ECM fixed by Bracewell.

The WW2 setting was a bit smeh. Just....whatever

Amy not remembering "The Stolen Earth" is just....curious

Still, the Daleks in olive and cammo webbing offering cups of tea is just hilarious

That's kinda my point. It made the dalek look physically powerless compared to the Doctor. It simply shooting him in the neck on paralyse and proceeding to continue impersonating an Ironside for a bit would have been the logical end of that scene.

They won in Revelation of the Daleks. It's one of those rare episodes where the Doctor doesn't accomplish much. He finds Davros building a new dalek army. While he struggles against it, a human on the planet calls in the true Dalek Empire, and they send a ship to round up Davros. Davros is beaten, but the (true) Daleks take him away for trial.

They also win in Genesis though they experience a setback.

Having seen the episode, I thought it was okay, even if the whole thing about the Spitfires was a bit sketchy. I've seen some people on a few other sites suggest that the Spitfires were firing tracers as opposed to pewpew weapons; any comments on that? Also, I think it says a lot for the Daleks that one of them was able to wipe out an entire Stuka squadron in a matter of seconds--vaporizing them, I guess, as there wasn't any debris.

I gave the episode a 4. Overall I was a bit dubious about it and would have given it a 3 but the Daleks actually winning swung it up to a 4.

Like many others here I really liked the 'inferior' Daleks going willingly to their deaths. I also liked that while the Ironside Daleks were taken in by the Doctor's bluff the real Daleks saw through it.

On the spitfires getting past the saucer's defences, apart from the obvious interference with the shield by the Doctor, I chalked a good part of it up to the ship's generally being totally fucked.

I didn't like the Daleks' method of holding London to ransom though. Making the lights turn on was hardly going to destroy London during the Blitz.
