Meh trying to make up excuses for the flood is just lame. It would be better off if the Flood never appeared after the first game. They were a stupid enemy to fight in the first game. After five levels battling the brilliant covenant armies suddenly facing generic zombies made you go wtf. In the sequels they amped the flood to a factor of eleven and made the halo universe revolve around them. Trying to explain the flood as a galactic threat just end ups being cringeworthy . Like teh posts here about why anakin /padme romance in aotc was good because apparently real people are like that.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.
