No but seriously...Butcher had to write the first three chapters of the next book to convince his editor to let him keep the ending...Axiomatic wrote:"My name is Maggie Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Hey, the series is called the Dresden files. Nobody ever called it the Harry Dresden files, did they?

Re: Changes (Dresden Spoilers)
That would be extremely ballsy on behalf of the author, to kill off the popular central character midway through the run. I'm sure Butcher could pull it off, but it would alienate a good chunk of his base.Axiomatic wrote:"My name is Maggie Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Conjure by it at your own risk. Re: Changes (Dresden Spoilers)
Oh, there's no reason he couldn't put Harry back in eventually, but, well, the book is called Changes. Why not make it a change of protagonist as well? Plus, I bet Butcher would enjoy being able to challenge the hero with slightly less cosmic-level threats.

Re: Changes (Dresden Spoilers)
Would be fun, but I doubt it'll happen. Although lil Maggie might have a better relationship with her Fairy Godmother than Harry does.
As for the question earlier? NO, I could not put it down which is why I was up til nearly 4am finishing it even though I had to be up at 6:30a to go to work.

Re: Changes (Dresden Spoilers)
I felt like screaming out of sheer frustration at the end of the novel. That ain't no way to end a bloody book! Particularly not when your audience needs to wait a bloody year to find out what's happening! Otherwise it was excellent though, I prefer Changes over Turn Coat (which I didn't think was bad, mind you, just... Not as good as some of the other novels in the series).

In a book packed full of great lines, the greatest of all is quite simple.

Just blew through this in a bit more than a day - I had to stop and re-read bits of it, just to make sure I had actually read what I thought I was reading.
I suppose that puts an end to the Council/Red Court war, then.
I do hope that Harry doesn't die...permanently, anyhow...and I confess that I had not even thought of it being Fix. That's a frightening idea.

Re: Changes (Dresden Spoilers)
I can think of a quarter dozen "outs" for Harry to have and come back in some form, all of which have some degree of foreshadowing.
I doubt this is not the last we hear of Harry Dresden.

Re: Changes (Dresden Spoilers)
For all those worried about waiting until November for a resolution, I believe it's been stated that the actual conclusion to the ending scene will take place in a short story that will be released, along with all the other Dresden short stories, in an Anthology in August.

Re: Changes (Dresden Spoilers)
I think you've got your dates mixed up. Side Jobs is coming out October 26th (from jim-butcher.com). This is not the next novel is the series but rather a collection of short stories including one called Aftermath, which is told from the point of view of Murphy and apparently takes place 45 minutes after the end of Changes. I find it unlike that a short story, told from a perspective which is not Harry and which a lot of fans will not buy, is going to tell us what really happened to Harry (on top of being shot anyway). The only thing I think we're likely to learn is if Murphy finds Harry's body.Aasharu wrote:For all those worried about waiting until November for a resolution, I believe it's been stated that the actual conclusion to the ending scene will take place in a short story that will be released, along with all the other Dresden short stories, in an Anthology in August.
To find out what really happened to Harry (e.g. who's the voice was and what the train was about) we'll need to wait for the next proper Dresden Files novel Ghost Story which will probably be out next year some time.

Yeah he's not dead I think, you don't put the winter knight down that easily.

Yea you do. They put the Summer Knight down that easily. Easier actually. They're still human, and all you have to do is get the drop on them. His Divine Shadow wrote:Yeah he's not dead I think, you don't put the winter knight down that easily.

Re: Changes (Dresden Spoilers)
Butcher wrote about Harry getting Hellfire replaced with Soulfire in a non-Dresden File novel, and he's referred to incidents in his short stories in his novels, so this may not be much of a stretch.Glimmervoid wrote:I find it unlike that a short story, told from a perspective which is not Harry and which a lot of fans will not buy, is going to tell us what really happened to Harry (on top of being shot anyway). It's nice to see him go back to the old naming convention, but maybe this is a hint as to what actually happened. I would not put it past Butcher to make Harry come back as a ghost.Glimmervoid wrote:To find out what really happened to Harry (e.g. who's the voice was and what the train was about) we'll need to wait for the next proper Dresden Files novel Ghost Story which will probably be out next year some time.

? It may have been elaborated upon, but him getting Soulfire was first stated explictly in Small Favor.jrswanson1 wrote: Butcher wrote about Harry getting Hellfire replaced with Soulfire in a non-Dresden File novel, and he's referred to incidents in his short stories in his novels, so this may not be much of a stretch.

Now, if only other bookstores carry Changes.... Damn it, the only store that carry Changes has a hefty mark-up price that I'm not able to pay atm.
