Reid's Opponent triples down on 'Chickens For Checkups'.

Post by SirNitram »

In yet another twist to chickens-for-checkups-gate, Nevada GOP Senate candidate Sue Lowden has now tripled down on her call for Americans to barter for health care, claiming that the idea has support from doctors, too.

Asked to clarify Lowden’s stand, her spokesperson, Chrystal Feldman, sends over this:

“Americans are struggling to pay for their health care, and in order to afford coverage we must explore all options available to drive costs down. Bartering with your doctor is not a new concept. There have been numerous reports as to how negotiating with your doctor is an option and doctors have gone on the record verifying this.

“Unfortunately, Harry Reid’s failed leadership forces us to take drastic measures. The fact remains that instead of producing a health care solution Americans support, Harry Reid spends his time focusing on attacking his biggest threat to another six years in Washington, Sue Lowden.”

The Lowden campaign sends along this letter to a local paper from a local medical professional, supporting the concept. “I have bartered with patients — for alfalfa hay, a bath tub, yard work and horse shoeing in exchange for my care,” the doc wrote.

Be that as it may, there’s a larger political context here, and Lowden’s tripling down on the idea only ensures that the story keeps on going, potentially turning her into a national punch line. One Nevada writer describes this as her “macaca moment.”

Still, kudos to Lowden for sticking by what she believes, come what may.
Naturally, this has produced ridicule, resulting in this: Chicken's For Checkups! Frankly, I think I'm gonna fire one off asking if she can locate a doctor for this Consumption in return to two goats.

You know, I actually said this to my doctor last year when I was pregnant - you know, "couldn't I just give you a chicken and a bag of potatoes and we'll just call it even?"

I mean, if it was good enough for the pioneers... Wait, what? The pioneers died of appendicitis and went blind from scarlet fever?

But as Charles Emerson Winchester III might say, no doctor in his right mind would accept personal chicks. 8)

I dunno... isn't, the Republican constituency also the constituency that felt that "if English was good enough for Jesus, then it ought to be good enough for us". They might really dig a notion to return to "Little House on the Prarie"-style marketing.

Unless the doctors "follow the market demand" and simply relocate their offices to "liberal" places that are still using cash.

I do sortof wonder how much this sort of thing is going to dampen Republican enthusiasm when it comes time for the vote, however. Right now they're all projecting their own version of their ideal Republican candidate, which doesn't exist in reality.

That's because they can afford to poll for the crazyman right now. They can safely poll a "protest" vote right now because it is too far from the election to matter.

The field will narrow and we'll see if the recent losses have galvanized the GOP to "serious" action, or if the wingnuts are going to call the shots for an election cycle.

I made that spoof website my facebook profile, and a family friend who has three young children and whose husband is a doctor commented on it: "if you find someone willing to offer indentured servitude, please forward his name to my husband. :)"

Mike Stark and General J.C. Christian just had a eureka moment: If paying your medical bills with chickens is such a good idea, why not use chickens to make campaign contributions? For example, to the campaign of Sue Lowden:
Sue Lowden, the leading Republican candidate from Nevada running to oppose Harry Reid for his United States Senate seat, famously suggested (twice) that barter should be on the table in any discussion about health care reform. More specifically, she seemed to yearn for the "good ol' days" when doctors accepted chickens in lieu of cash payment.

My friend JC Christian, Patriot, made a good point: if chickens are good enough for doctors, they should be good enough for campaign donations.

I decided to test his theory.

Turns out it didn't work out so well. When I tried to present the candidate with a couple of Cornish Hens in exchange for entry to her Washington D.C. fundraiser, I found myself pushed out the door and told I was unwelcome at the "closed event."

It's barter! It works! I know people who trade chicken for entrance all the time!!!(I actually did it myself when I was running game-night for my friends. If you don't bring me dinner, I will not let you in.)

Its funny that just a few days ago I was wringing my hands about her pulling ahead of Reid...
Since this has hit the fan, her numbers have tanked.
