1 - This is completely new? I remember reading that somebody had done that 15 years ago. Must have been some other kind of "feel".

This is not, actually, the first prosthetic hand that has touch sensors - DARPA is also working on one, for example - but their approach is unique. One drawback is that while this hand has sensation it lacks dexterity compared to some other models. On the other hand, the most dexterous artificial hands at present do not provide sensation. There are a number of groups around the world making great strides towards a truly useful prosthetic hand.
