Re: SGU 115: Lost (Spoilers)
Another solid 4.
Well it looks like they won’t be getting control over Destiny. Good idea though, using the star gates. Too bad for Eli and company though; it’ll be interesting to see how they get them back.
This week its Greer’s turn to explore his character’s background, and its pretty fucked up. A little more of Lt. James again; and what the fuck T.J., you already tell all the women on the ship.
Next week, the return of the Blue Man Group.
By the way, anyone know what model of guns (i.e., the assault rifles) they are using?

G-36Ks and some of the marines and airman are rocking M4A1s.
Edit: and a 4 for this episode. Glad to see at least someone acknowledging James and Scott's previous relationship. But good episode, and we'll see how the trio get back to the ship.

Thanks; the G-36Ks looked familiar but I couldn't quite place where they were from.Agent Fisher wrote:G-36Ks and some of the marines and airman are rocking M4A1s.
I was surprised by the whole: "Does she know I know bit". It would explain his love for the KINOs and Eli the super spy though.Agent Fisher wrote:Edit: and a 4 for this episode. Re: SGU 115: Lost (Spoilers)
Eh... well, I guess a 3. I woulda' given it higher but the forced drama at the end (while a little clever) just ended up annoying me and that New Kino Guy was just aggravating. I also don't know why Young seems to be such an asswad about James sleeping with Scott, given his circumstances, and the fact that James seems to be one of the most dedicated and most professional members of their expedition. But hey, at least they're not yelling, so I'll take it.
I did like Greer's backstory, I appreciated the non-musical-montage and I liked the genuinely stargatey race through the gates. I'm sincerely hoping they wrap up this whole "Derp left behind!" sub-plot soon (flying the alien spaceship to Destiny mayhaps?) but regardless it was a mixed episode. What was that about Greer's special spirit? His special violent spirit? What happened to this guy on his first deployment to make him go from mournful athlete to crazy undisciplined supersoldier? To me it's a 4 that's gotten penalized down to a 3, but not quite a 2, especially not compared to some of the other episodes so far.
If I was a bit more critical I'd call it a (4-2)+1 because even if some of the stuff still annoys me, I do like the trajectory so I'm giving it a point for liking the cut of their jib on these two weeks. I like how they're making James relevent, I like the new more introspective focus, I like the interesting planets, and I've got some goodwill left over from last week's episode. Next week has no such luck in it's favor, so it better be on it's best behavior--it's been a few weeks since I've handed out a 1 or 2, and I'll be looking for an opportunity. ;D

A Solid 4. Good insight into Greer's backstory and character, a nice tie-back to "Justice", and certainly a challenge for Eli, Chloe, and Scott to get back.

As for Hulu, I'm a fairly new member and have so far only used it to watch episodes of B5 and Lexx. Couple weeks back I was going to wait and watch SGU there, but I didn't know how long it would take before it was available. Turns out their policy is:
And SciFi's (I refuse to use Syfy) is:Hulu wrote:Availability Notes: The first three episodes will be available the day after air; subsequent episodes will be available 8 days after the initial broadcast.
I won't go to the Free TV Project site, I get a warning from my security system about potentially breaching browser security. I assume a similar time frame though.Syfy wrote:Episodes online Saturdays, one week after airing.

Along with the Blue Man group, according to SciFi, Destiny's power is going to kinda fail. Looks like that'll give Eli and crew the chance to catch up. The big question though is what's causing it?

Re: SGU 115: Lost (Spoilers)
I'm pretty stingy with 5s, but I think I'm going to give it to this episode. It was good Stargate, good drama, good backstory, good writing, good sci-fi all across the board. Nothing about the episode irked me except for one minor quibble toward the beginning I don't even remember now. The "Rush's team" red herring and gate lockout at the end I thought was particularly clever.
Why does Greer assume the team left him, though? He just took off running once out of the cave-in; why not consider that the rest of the team may have been killed or trapped by it?
Edit: Hell, after I sleep on it and give it some time, I might just put these two alongside "In the Line of Duty" and "Jolinar's Memories".

Re: SGU 115: Lost (Spoilers)
1.5/5
About the only thing good about this episode was the varied planets and the dinosaur thingy. A few remotely funny lines and slight hint of tension in the chase through the stargate scenes. Far too many minutes wasted on filler like hueg flashback scenes.
That said how did Chloe read alien glyphs ? I sense teh writers making her special by giving her innate talent or something because she has no useful qualifications at all.

She didn't. She just noticed one glyph just kept changing positions on a piece of 'art' that was exactly the same otherwise.

I think he means on the alien spaceship and not the map in the tunnels. I'd imagine she came to have that knowledge when she was kidnapped by the aliens and had that mindlink machine put on her head.

Re: SGU 115: Lost (Spoilers)
I did see there was a rune shaped like Destiny on the screen Chloe wanted Eli to select. So maybe that simply attracted her attention. I rated this episode a five, by the way: I really liked the race through the gates, and how both the crew on Destiny and the people lost on the planet came to the conclusion that they could use the gates to catch up. Greer got some solid character development and not too much time was wasted on his flashbacks (I had initially feared they'd take up as much time as Rush' hallucinations in the previous episode, and was glad they didn't). Solid character development, lots of nice scenery to look at, Lt. James got to show her competency some more, Young and Rush showed they can actually get along for once... Yeah, I think this was pretty excellent, easily one of the best episodes in the season so far.

Re: SGU 115: Lost (Spoilers)
"Time" showed what SgU could really do when focused on action rather than drama. They had plenty of chances for bewildering tunnel firefights with alien spiders, running from giant dinos and so much more as they race the clock through stargates from one unknown world to another. This was my biggest reason for rating episode so low. This episode had the setup for epic plot but did not carry it to its logical conclusion.b

I've been wondering how they're going to handle the trip between galaxies. Are they going to devote any episodes to it and address the power recharge concerns, or will they just pickup with them entering the new galaxy?

That was something I wish SGA had focused on more during the Daedalus's trips between Milky Way and Pegasus, at least beyond "Intruder", "The Return", and even "Midway" to an extent.Siege wrote:It's a vast intergalactic darkness. Re: SGU 115: Lost (Spoilers)
When Rush was in the blue-man ship he picked up some things from the aliens' minds, and in the episode after they returned both Rush and Chloe still had some lingering trauma about what was "done to them". I got a sense (and I don't know why) that Chloe picked up a crash-course in Blue-man from her time in the fishbowl and now it's showing up as an intuitive understanding of alien glyphs, symbols, languages, etc.Agent Fisher wrote:Sarevok wrote:Really ? Didnt interest me much but I respect the fact it was a character piece and the slow pacing of SGU is just too pointless to complain about now. Some amusement from Eli and I thought him and Chloe did a pretty good job of being intelligent about trying to fix thier problem.
I got the same impression Chloe is going to have been affected by that alien encounter with her insight into the aliens ship system. Either the group is going to go back to that ship and get caught by the aliens or they are going to use the ship to fly back to the Destiny with the aid of Chloe's insight.
I was sorta expecting them to encounter the folks they left behind in the initial episodes and it would have made for a pretty good throw back to finding out what actually happened to them. I'm more interested in seeing what these gate seeder ships are like and how far ahead they are. If Destiny is falling apart then one would expect them to be in similar shape but they must have some sort of automated production assembly for gate building if they seed the things.
I would have expected Earth to be more interested in acquiring one of those things, the ability to build gates would allow them to colonize any world they want or setup intergalactic bridges to anywhere.
