Words fail me. Watch for yourself.
When the histories are written, I'll bet that the Old Right and the New Left are put down as having a lot in common and that the people in the middle will be the enemy.

Americans see the Establishment center as an empty, decaying void that commands neither their confidence nor their love. It was not the American worker who designed the war or our military machine. It was the establishment wise men, the academicians of the center.

The term is 'Klansman', not ku-kluxer.

... The fact saves good Ludwig's bacon. His music survives because it lies outside the plane of the popular apprehension, like the colors beyond violet or the concept of honor. If it could be brought within range, it would at once arouse hostility. Its complexity would challenge; its lack of moral purpose would affright. Soon there would be a movement to put it down, and Baptist clergymen would range the land denouncing it, and in the end some poor musician, taken in the un-American act of playing it, would be put on trial before a jury of Ku Kluxers, and railroaded to the calaboose.
- H.L. Mencken, The Baltimore Evening Sun, June 29, 1925

I seriously checked around after seeing that to try to work out whether it was a parody or not.

The revelation at 3 minutes in just takes the biscuit, particularly with the interviewer's slightly plaintive "why would you have done that?" You have to ask what kind of person would be so stupid as to make a protest like that and yet also be able to get themselves elected, even to local government.

That's an article 85 years out of date. In the same way we no longer say 'chinaman' or 'good-time-girl' the term is now klansman.

Oh man. I wasn't prepared for the 3min mark. Holy shit.

I laughed, I admit it - this is so absurd. How can anyone seriously do this and not be joking? God.

What do you mean by "not be joking"? He said several times that its a parody to highlight this "hoody" issue. Though I think he could/should have been better prepared for the interview, in order to show more "I am sacrificing my dignity for this" and less "I am a total nutjob".

This is pre-WWII. You can sort of tell from the sketch style, from thee way it refers to Japan (Japan in the 1950s was still rebuilding from WWII), the spelling of Tokyo, lots of details. Nothing obvious... except that the upper right hand corner of the page reads "November 1931." --- Simon_Jester

This is from 2008 people. I remember this article being posted in N & P some time ago and just to make sure I wasn't mistaken I watched the video. Yes it was the same one where the guy blacks up his face which is revealed after removing the Klansmen hood. That thread turned into a fight between the "Pro-hoodies" and the "anti-hoodies" which I really don't have much interest.

I think I was lurking for that '08 thread. I remember thinking "Gee, I own a couple hoodies and would never be taken for a thug in NZ or anyone else. Because I dress like a regulary guy in a hoodie and not a fucking thug."
