May I start a forum here? (Admin response needed)

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but there's more to it than I can fit in the description. I wish to start a forum based around unpublished ideas. To be quite frank, this would be a kind of brainstorm&response kind of thing, and I don't know if that is allowed on this site or not. I've tried this with youtube, but the video format doesn't fit me, and no interest means no viewers, no viewers means no responses.

The basic idea here is simple. Post an idea, in as much detail as the 60,000 character limit will allow, and then when people come along they should give feedback on the idea. At this point they can post their own idea within the same category, the only thing asked being that they provide feedback to others first.

I'll start off each category under a different thread. This should avoid confusion as to what the category is and therefore what qualifies as on-topic discussion and what doesn't.

Nonetheless, I need to first know whether this will be allowed, if I should take this to a different section of the site or not, and if there are any limitations on what can be discussed. (IE: Is only technology acceptable, or are lifeforms a legitimate discussion as well?)

Yeah, you can stick this in Fanfics. It's also for original fiction, story ideas and advice. However, if it's just for general things, it might be more appropriate to post them elsewhere (say, if you have some questions about how some organism might evolve and it's not for a plot point or story that is currently in progress). If some things are kinda questionable where they might go, post them where they seem most appropriate and if we mods disagree, we'll move them and no hard feelings.

I'm the Fanfics mod, so if you want to start posting your stuff there, go ahead with it.

Thank you, although putting my original fiction under "fanfics" does seem a little weird, it's a lot better than not having anywhere to put it. And yes, these things are all at least mildly plot-important, such as a narrating character's weapon, vehicle or species, or I wouldn't be worrying about them, and since this is as obscure as it gets, I will provide as much non-spoiler background as possible as to follow the protocol set in the "obscure series" thread in the science fiction forum. (And use the "SPOILER" marker when this is not possible.)

We already have original fiction in the Fanfiction forum (most prominently Stuards Salvation War).

Of course posting work that you want to make money off in a public forum (it's still possible of course). But other than that, but Fanfiction is definately not the wrong place for original fiction.

It is. It makes writing much more fun and much less stressful. (Besides, it's not like I'm unemployed, I don't need to make much from writing.)

avianmosquito, if you ever intend to publish your original work, DO NOT post it in the Fanfiction or any other publicly viewable forum. That gives up first rights in publishing. If you don't know what those are, do some research and find out first, because you have no business even thinking about publishing before you know the very first basics.

I suggest joining the Writer's Guild private subforum, it is excellent for getting feedback on raw ideas or partial sections. I wish I'd had time to use it more (if I'd kept contributing to salvation war), but it's an interesting read even if you're not putting your own stuff up.

I'm not publishing completed works, or even stories of any form, just concepts. They may be plot-important, but they themselves are not part of the plot. Besides, I already know about the first rights law, and I have no intent to publish anything I post. (Maybe a novel or two, but those won't be going here.) If I put up a short story, it's because I enjoyed writing it, I want people to read it, and I don't care about the money. (Never have.)
