I wonder, would it be possible to make a poll "Your favourite <insert occupation aboard Starfleet ship>?" and not have the TOS contender win?
Yes, just come up with an occupation that wasn't shown in TOS.

Hmm, a complex, 3-d character compared to a bunch of non-acting freaks. Yeah, I'll go with McCoy. RIP Mr. Kelley!

Come ON! McCoy all the way. He was just so damn funny all the time, without ruining the moment.

"No casualties, doctor."

"Wrong, Mr. Chekov. There WERE casualties: my wits."

"Yes! Genesis! How can you be deaf with ears like that?!"

I had to vote for the EMH. If you take ST mecanics into account the EMH IS McCoy and every other doctor in Federation history.

Bugger i changed my mind McCoy is funny and one of the first athiests shown on TV in a good light.

Bones--the only ST doctor with a personality. :D Of course if the question was which was the best looking, Crusher takes it. 8)

Mcoy, you just had to love his jokes

2nd goes to the EMH, his jokes were almost as great, but still as dry.

Yep, McCoy.

I wish he had got to say "Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a doctor. Oh wait, I am a doctor." :D

Oh yeah, I would like to mention that Bashir is a close second for two reasons.

1. He has good taste in women, see him going after both Daxs.

2. He actually sleeps with one of the Daxs.

That is all.

Not to mention getting Nana Visitor behind the scenes as well

McCoy was a massive character amoung other massive characters. The character itself was well done, portrayed like a real person. On the other hand the EMH was the only good character to be on the show all seven seasons. He was the saving grace, and they had episode that revolved around him. His character was against all odds and managed to be portrayed well the whole time. My vote is for the EMH with Bones being a close second.

Its not exactly a big selection pool. Six candidates only two of which are female, one of which is a wrinkled old hag. Its called "process of elimination"
