Star Wars New Essential Guide to Warfare

Post by General Mung Beans »

Star Wars New Essential Guide to Warfare is to be published in 2011 and written by Jason Fry. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_War ... to_Warfare
El Moose Monstero: That would be the winning song at Eurovision. I still say the Moldovans were more fun. And that one about the Apricot Tree.
That said...it is growing on me.
Thanas: It is one of those songs that kinda get stuck in your head so if you hear it several times, you actually grow to like it.
General Zod: It's the musical version of Stockholm syndrome.

At least Traviss won't be able to fuck this book up as originally intended (back when it was called the Essential Guide to the Military).

I loved The Essential Atlas, and he at least expanded a little on the use of Tectors and Imperator Mk. Is in the Clone Wars. I'd say we might get a good product.

Well it's a year off, but this might be my first Star Wars book since Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor.

Here's hoping that his political career goes down in flames and, hopefully, a hilarious gay sex scandal.

Other than the Atlas, what else has this guy done? According to Wookieepedia, he's done some CW-related stuff--anyone seen those?

That's where the Imperator and Tector references are from. I think he'll be good for the book, he likes adding new stuff and obscure trivia. We might even run the risk of Admiral Giel's ship being ID'ed at some point! :P

What did he say about those Tectors and ISDs? :)
"They're not triangular, but they are more or less blade-shaped"- Thrawn McEwok on the shape of Bakura destroyers

"Lovely. It's known as impugning character regarding statement of professional qualifications' in the legal world"- Karen Traviss, crying libel because I said that no soldier she interviewed would claim that he can take on billion-to-one odds

"I've already laid out rules for this thread that we're not going to make these evidential demands"- Dark Moose on supporting your claims

Fry did some fluff here and there to add to the book (which was basically a recap of stuff from the first season, going by people who read it). The most noticable being an ID for the time and place of an ancient WEG reference, tying in a named Tector-class vessel (the Gibbon) and a CIS computer virus that was planted on the ship, ruined the offensive and helped delay the deployment of large numbers of these and Imperator-class destroyers until the problems could be fixed. There were a few ships of both classes deployed in a test run and given to some task forces, but not on a large scale.

There's now a thread on TFN about the book, Fry posted and mentioned the Taung/Zhell conflict being scheduled for it. It seems he'll use the same approach to this book as he did with The Essential Atlas, scattered personal notes and stories, analysis of tactics and weaponry, taking sourcing-help from forum-goers. Sounds extensive once again, so my hopes are up. 8)

In other words it sounds like something worth acquiring?

I want to build up my library, right now it consists of very little.

I'm hopeful, at least.

He did good on the Atlas, imo. Even got a connection to Rothana Heavy Engineering and the Eye of Palpatine. The Patriim Shipyards also got some more work orders, so to speak. So, tech-wise, it had some nice details and easter eggs here and there.

Which makes me curious on how they'll separate the warfare from the chronology, since that already had a big part in the Atlas.

I hope this book will contain info on things we have seen very little mentioned on such as the Republic Judicial forces, non-Clone elements of the Grand Army of the Republic, non-Droid elements of the Confederate army, and the Imperial Army.
