The Irken Empire In The Culture-verse

A few bored random omnipotent beings decide to have some fun, so they have transported the entire Irken Empire into the Culture universe as of the first Invader Zim episode “The Nightmare Begins”. Sublime level factions are staying out of this. Assuming the Irkens operate competently how well do they do against the Culture galaxy?

Bottom line is the Irken Empire is vast inter-galactic empire hell bent on Universal Conquest (See quote in sig and also: Holo Map in The Nightmare Begins part 1 that establishes several galaxies as the low end for OID II, Backseat Drivers From Beyond the Stars which has their flagship, The Massive, flying through several galaxies will ramming through several planets and a star along the way. Also note that their vast industry and the fact they have the ship numbers and population to warrant entire planets with a single prupose such as Storage planets and Foodcourt worlds at the most at least establishes them as an inter-galactic level power).

And their far from being an obscure SF series last time I checked.

How do the Irken engage in space combat? Because IIRC, the Culture can strike targets from hyperspace, destroy planets with their engine backwash, with incredibly fast reaction times for their AIs. What do the Irken have to match this?

Irkens engage at high C to FTL speeds in real space. Their ships are huge (in "Battle of the Planets" we see that, IIRC the class correctly, Shuvver escort firgates hit by Mars and their are easily several hundred kilometers long going from that, and in "Backseat Drivers From Beyond the Stars" we have a low end of 1000 kilometers for their flagship The Massive when it rams a planet). For an idea of Irken firepower see post 16. Also, since the Irkens are being competent they will end up with some pretty powerful AI for their ship (they can make a working AI... will I guess Artificial Stupidity would be more accurate, out of random things they pull out of their pockets). The Irkens also have time travel technology as seen in "Bad, Bad Rubbery Piggy".

Since the Irkens have been made competent the Tallest are not just going to go:

Purple: “Your creepy.”

Red: “Destroy them! Fire some sort of… laser… thingy… at them!”

Their going to play this smart and gain some advantages before going on a war footing against the Culture galaxy. It just makes things more interesting with them not being blown up on sight.

On a side note, I doubt a Mind will survive an encounter with GIR.

I would imagine that the Culture is more than capable of dealing with a threat like the Irken Empire, as their technology clearly outstrips the Irken tech; in fact I'm pretty sure there was another thread or ten that discussed this, and it basically depended on how seriously everyone would take it. If it's comedy, Zim wins or is foiled in a humorous manner that allows him to try again the next week; if it's serious they get curb stomped. But one thing can be agreed on: "We are the Borg, and we need tacos. We need them or we will explooode. That happens to us sometimes."

The Culture tech outstrips the Irkens in most areas, but the Irkens still hold an edge in industry, FTL speeds, durability (unless the Culture have soda cans that can hold the mass of the planet Mars... and unarmored soldiers survive being shot into planets at high C speeds),and possibly power generation.

If the number I found for E-M conversion is correct (21.5MT per kg) then the note pad size device Zim used to build his base in seconds has a low end, assuming only 100 tons, of about 83.4 Gigatons. And given Zim has the worse technology possibly what the Irken Empire proper has is just going to be plain terrifying.

And if you are wondering where the E-M convesion tech comes from, see the episode where Zim was taken back to Foodcourtia and Sizz-Lorr used an M-E conversion device to store his ship when they arrived.

And the Irkens would be able to make good use of planets like Callnowia as inter-galactic range artillery against targets in real space.

Then you have the inter-stellar/galactic range teleporter we see Zim use in "The Most Horrible Xmas Ever". See that Culture ship there? Everything on just got replace with rubber piggies and giant fish in teddy bear suits.

I'm leaning towards serious but with the addition of the Irkens being competent enough not to get blown up on first contact and gain some intel and tech from lower races before going to war.
