It's basically an execution

Well, rhetorically, what's wrong with killing somebody who's got a death wish?

Well, one reason I can think of without even trying, is that they might simply be suffering from a treatable disorder, like depression (which leads to many, if not most suicides), and this is simply overkill, not to mention irresponsible (to throw life away when another solution exists).

Whether or not suicide is morally permissable in your line of thinking, I would reason that it would still be more humane to find non-life destroying alternatives.

Glad you've come around. :D

Now say, "The Federation is a bunch of Commie Pinko Bastards" and you'll feel much better. :D
By the pricking of my thumb,
Something wicked this way comes.
Open, locks,
Whoever knocks.

Well, now that you mention it.. I hate the Empire because their a bunch of totalitarian fascist oppressors with genocidal tendencies (is that redundant?), but I love 'em because they are great villians (and fictional too, thank goodness).

So I guess for me it's a love/hate relationship... I love to hate 'em.
hehe

I guess I don't like the Federation, period. They're too burecratic, too incompetent, or too touchy-feeling left wing for my tastes. Though I do like certain CHARACTERS from this Federation (members of the TOS crew come to mind, or Picard, despite his many faults). It's often when these characters heroically resist the complacent and goofy mindset of their superiors that they really shine.

No, its quite possible to have totalitarian rule over a population without wanting to kill them all. In fact, if you do kill them, you can't rule them anymore, so it could be argued that its a contradiction. :?

No,. but you could kill half of them, which is still intensely evil.

Plus, its ruled by a man who is clearly not out to preserve the best interests of the people, but instead secure power for himself and play ridiculous chess games with people's lives (or pal Palpy).

Anybody ever play Mortal Kombat Gold for the Dreamcast? That reminds me of that scene where Quan Chi (the evil sorceror) and Baraka (his henchman) are talking...
Quan Chi (triumphant): Shinok is dead. Raiden and all the Elder Gods are dead... everyone is dead.

Baraka: Yes.. everyone is dead! You maniac! How can you rule a kingdom with no one in it??!
