Which why I recomend re-reading one of the Culture books at least one a month to remind yourself not to become to aurgent

B5 is one of my favorite universes, and I still don't care that it would be destroyed by ST or SW or the Culture, or any of the others. What makes a sci-fi great is not its technology, but its plot and its characters and its writing. Sometimes that message gets lost on these boards, but I don't think these debates determine which is the show everyone should watch. I just think they determine technology levels and, in some cases, tactics. Nothing more, and nothing less.

The problem though, is that a Warlock seems comparable in most respects to a Sharlin class cruiser in terms of its abilities.

Even that might be overstating the case a little. The weapon power estimates that get floated around SB generally peg the Magic Ship's firepower as somewhat below that of a Sharlin. Certainly the Warlock's defenses are far weaker (no crystaline armor) and its propulsion system isn't as sophisticated as that of the Sharlin. Given that a Sharlin is no more than a one shot kill for most SW ships, the Warlock would count as little more than an amusement for Imperial crews.

So is this what you were asking me those questions for, dodo? You seem to be confusing watts and tons. Watts are a unit of POWER, defined as joules/second. Tons are a unit of energy, defined as 4.2e9 joules/ton. A weapon rated at, say, 5 terawatts, firing for 5 seconds, will only deliver 25 terajoules to it's target. That's barely 5.9 kilotons! The Heavy Parts. of a Warlock, rated at 1.2 million terawatts as you say, firing for 5 seconds, will only deliver 6e18 joules, or 1.4 gigatons. A Warlocks cannons are not powerful enough to even dent the shields of an SSD, and they are not maneuverable enough to avoid HTL fire from an SSD. If even one of those guns hits the Warlock, it will be either severely damaged or destroyed.

Thank you, Crown. The example you gave isn't too great, though. Dodo is a pretty reasonable guy, he just had his units mixed up. It can happen to any of us. Washburn, on the other hand, should be made an Honorary VI for his wild claims, leaps in logic, and refusal to provide evidence. A prime specimen of rabidity.
