What country would you visit this summer?

Post by Superman »

Hey folks, I am in the process of figuring out where I am going to this summer for a vacation. Right now, I am thinking about Cambodia, Madagascar or Thailand. Where ever I end up, I plan on doing lots of hiking and observing lots of wildlife.

If you could pick a place to visit, where would you choose?

Leave all the problems thousands of miles away.

Visit Portugal. Sun, beaches, mountains and one of the terrorists least potential targets.

I want to go to Canada. Or Norfolk, VA to see the carriers (if you can, of course). Or, alternatively, Japan.

Cambodia, despite its history of warfare and violence, is actually one of the lesser known tropical paradises of the world. Ten American dollars will buy a room in a four star hotel and travelers can even watch free kickboxing shows outside of their rooms.

The one big problem, however, is landmines. Cambodia is one of the most heavily landmined countries in the world. Venturing out into the jungles may result in tripping one. Usually, it is recommended to stay within the cities or only travel well-known paths.

Everyone that I have known that has gone to this country has loved it. It's a matter of time before I go there.

Yes, I love Japan and Nihongo wo hanasemasu. Since my girl is Japanese, we go there about once or twice per year.

Madagascar is an island off of the coast of Africa and is home to many endagered species of Lemur. It is also a "hub" of chameleon evolution. Very interesting. Read about it sometime. There are many great conservation groups working out of there.

Canada. I'd like to fly into Edmonton, perhaps, and drive up to the Northwest Territories, just to see the massive tracts of unspoiled wilderness. I'm a sucker for things like that. :D

Don't know yet. Probably along the East coast. Major cities this time perhaps.

If hiking and wildlife's your thing you might want to visit Nepal. They have nature preserves that almost no one ever sees and the scenery is amazing. They've been having some issues with Maoist guerrillas but things have settled down a bit and people aren't getting killed on a weekly basis anymore. Just don't let the altitude get to you as a lot of the country's at 10,000' or higher.

If it was a social kind of trip, I'd go back to Australia in a heartbeat, because I miss my friends there terribly. If we're talking about seeing a place for the adventure of going somewhere new, I'd go to Iceland, Russia, or Italy.

Been to Australia, mate. Even met Steve Irwin at the zoo in Beerwah. I hear that New Zealand is much better, though.

The Just For Laughs comedy festival is legendary, but I think you'll miss it. If you do get to go, though, watch out for the street pranksters. They're everywhere.

My avatar pic was taken in Australia, actually, with my best Aussie friend there with me. I spent six fabulous months down there in Tasmania and it's absolutely gorgeous. Le sigh.

I'd go to Thailand. Cambodia is filled with a few million mines, and Madagascar was having a civil war last time I checked.

Thailand has some problems, but it is a nice place and as lng as you keep out of troubled areas your fine.

I'd like to go to Rio, Japan, or Spain sometime soon, but I don't see that happening.

Well I'll be. I was about to say I didn't think any civil war was going on in Madagascar, but lo and behold, there is one (though it's relatively tame, by African standards). Guess that leaves Thailand as the only one on the list where you're not going to get kidnapped, blown up, or hacked to pieces with big knives.

Now, if I were traveling, I'd love to go to Rio. Just me, a white sand beach, a tropical drink or six, and 10,000 women in bikinis with less material than one of my socks. Adventure is for people afraid of old age.

Does going to United States even though you live in the United States sound ok. I don't go anywhere farther than 30 miles in any year. I've only been to three states and those were to and back sorta things, one day journies. I haven't seen shit in america. I live in backwoods Pennsylvania.
