Much as I hate this episode otherwise the original plan DID seem to be wait until they can SAFELY dial the Destiny. Kiva might very well have counted on there being a lot more time to move men and equipment to Destiny except the Tau'ri showed up and forced her hand.
IIRC, Rush's response to her asking 'Can we dial the 9th chevron (or something to that effect)' was 'Not without everything blowing up on short notice' which at least to me indicates they initially expected to be able to do it WITHOUT everything blowing up on short notice.

'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

*shrug* I know the term DEM was no appropriate, it was the only fitting word I could think of at the time. I'm forgiving of the contrivance due to the character development being OK, though.NecronLord wrote:What you're actually saying it is is a contrivance. And it is. But it's really not much of one at all, for my money.
On the whole "Eli takes Chloe's compliments as a runner-up award" thing. I've been thinking that even though Eli should just accept his friendship with her as it is, Chloe should realize that she is, in fact, giving him a runner up award. Being BFFs is nice, but she has already chosen Scott over Eli, anyone else is a runner-up for her affections (of whatever kind), and expecting people to ignore that is very selfish on her end too.
Really, this got me thinking of all the high-school style friendship rethoric people use, and how it crumbles to dust when romantic relationships enter the fray.

As much as I dislike Chloe and for that matter think Scott is a wanker, I really hate how people keep ragging on her for "teasing" Eli and whatnot.
Why is she obligated to being anything other than a friend to Eli whether she knows he feels attracted to her or not. Oh right because she's a "slut" and thus must reciprocate any male's advances or be a hypocrite? Please.

Well there is the part when she is about to pass out and she complains that she never used to have real friends. She talks of her old friends who were only around for the good times. She then talks of how Eli is a good friend. She finally ends it with this great statement along the lines of "a real friend is around even when things are bad and you treat them like shit".
How is Eli supposed to react to this? He has nerd-crush on Cloe who is banging someone that Eli knows he can never compete against physically and is being told straight to his face that she treats him like shit and knows it.
----------------------
Now combine this with what Greer said. How he told Scott to chill out, that they both knew Eli would take a bullet before he let anything happen to Cloe. So basically everyone knows how Eli feels about her.
I can see a few episodes of angst between Eli and Scott after all this ends as Scott is mad at Eli for not maning up and doing a better job of protecting Cloe instead of letting her get shot.

That makes her an inconsiderate asshole at worst. But then *everyone* in SGU is an incosiderate asshole. It still doesn't mean she is ever required to humour Eli's romantic affections.

No it doesnt, but that doesnt mean everyone cant hate her character for being both a using bitch and completely useless.

Re: SGU 120, Incursion Part 2 (Spoilers)
I really dislike Chloe but, as a rule, I enjoy it when characters own up to their failures. Chloe wasn't doing anything wrong, she just admitted that she's done stuff that might have made him mad. That's really not far out there. Just because Eli is a good guy doesn't mean he automatically earns a relationship. There are really worse things than being a dependable friend.
I don't want to be an asshole, but I think people might be putting themselves in Eli's shoes and getting mad at her for him, or for their own sake because they see elements of Eli in themselves. But that's really not fair, and Chloe hasn't toyed with Eli or used him or anything. Being attracted to someone doesn't mean they need to treat you any differently, and it's Eli who often makes this weird. Yeah, he'd like to get in her pants, but so what? If you can't work with or be friends with someone who you're attracted to, you've got a little insecurity issue.
Anyway... I really don't think she's earned this scorn.

I think that's the writer's intention, Eli is like the audience's avatar in the universe (seeing how a majority of SGU's audience is of the nerd persuasion), so it follows that they toy with usual emotional hangups of said collective for optimun drama.Covenant wrote:I think people might be putting themselves in Eli's shoes
As for the Chloe/Eli relationship, again, I agree that Eli has to man up and accept he is just a friend and move on, but it will rub me the wrong way if they try to make it look like Eli is being the unreasonable one, when Chloe has been less than stellar as a friend with him (no wonder she has no real friends back home), using him as an emotional doormat whenever Scott is not around, and totally ignoring this super-valuable friendship in situations where it mattered (like staying at that perfect planet, or the civilian coup aganist the military).
My point is that both their takes on the relationship are wrong, and both characters need to grow up about it. I just charged aganist Chloe's BFF rethoric because Eli's failings are so obvious there's little need to point them out.
Then again, despite her uselessness and bitchiness, I don't dislike Chloe as a character, I mean, she's handled pretty decently given who she is and where she is, and helps drive home the point of the characters not being qualified for the situation they're at.
Now, I wonder how long until there's some Scott/Chloe drama that sucks Eli in, because what better way to make things awkward than a pseudo-romantic triangle with a fatty nerd and a buff insecure soldier?
