I think they did too (in fact, I know they did, just listening to the wild laughter from some of the more famous jokes), but I think they also ran a laugh track. Laugh tracks don't sound exactly like real people laughing--it's too uniform, it sounds like everyone is laughing exactly the way people are expected to laugh. I swear I hear laugh tracks in Seinfeld, though I also have heard the audience laughing.Gandalf wrote:I think Seinfeld had an audience, I've seen shots of Jerry talking to them.

Any city gets what it admires, will pay for, and, ultimately, deserves…We want and deserve tin-can architecture in a tinhorn culture. And we will probably be judged not by the monuments we build but by those we have destroyed.--Ada Louise Huxtable, "Farewell to Penn Station", New York Times editorial, 30 October 1963

And yes, I hate laugh tracks, so damn stupid.

Just a interesting piece of trivia:
I Love Lucy did not employ a laugh track. All the laughs on that show came from an audience who watching a playback of the show. But alot of the laughtracks come from the recorded laughs on I Love Lucy.
