Comedy wise, this was definitely one of Chuck's best reviews.
Mr. Harley: Your impatience is quite understandable.
Klaatu: I'm impatient with stupidity. My people have learned to live without it.
Mr. Harley: I'm afraid my people haven't. I'm very sorry... I wish it were otherwise.

Annoying Character Moment to Sir Isaac Newton for acting like an insufferable dandy, huh?
Point in defense: He was an insufferable dandy in real life. The stories from his peers that the man was a complete utter jerk who could make Dr. Gregory House seem an absolute darling in comparison are abundant. Newton's experiments in alchemy didn't help improve his 'tude either thanks to constant mercury exposure.

What season was this episode? I don't think I've ever seen Troi in a Starfleet uniform. Normally she wears some skin tight one piece that shows her cleavage, like all professionals.

Re: OTNGEG - Descent Part 2
she started using standard medical officers uniform during the episode(s) where Picard got capture and "interrogated"(read: tortured), I'm pretty sure we never see the purple outfit after that episode and to be honest the standard uniform looked way better.OsirisLord wrote:What season was this episode? Re: OTNGEG - Descent Part 2
That whole background Borg convo almost deserves an episode of its own.
And that has any bearing on the review how? The Annoying Character Moment goes to anyone in the episode Chuck finds sufficiently annoying (with a few exceptions for humorous purposes and/or if he finds the character truly, irredemably insufferable; like Okona for one). So how is it a point in defense if he was like that in real life? The writers threw in Newton in the episode, Chuck found him annoying enough, so Newton gets the ACM. I fail to see why this would necessitate a defense.CaiusWickersham wrote:Annoying Character Moment to Sir Isaac Newton for acting like an insufferable dandy, huh?

Probably because Jellico got fed up and took a phaser to all her casual clothes.Lord Revan wrote:she started using standard medical officers uniform during the episode(s) where Picard got capture and "interrogated"(read: tortured), I'm pretty sure we never see the purple outfit after that episode and to be honest the standard uniform looked way better.OsirisLord wrote:What season was this episode? Re: OTNGEG - Descent Part 2
It's in how Chuck explains why he's giving the award -- "The father of physics is portrayed as an insufferable dandy," with a tone that he expected better or some more "respect" for Newton in the portrayal. Now, if Newton really was the grade of asshole as his peers described him to be, then the portrayal was accurate and what then was Chuck expecting? Giving an ACM to a character who really ought to be behaving better (i.e. Neelix) is one thing. Giving an ACM for accurate depiction is excessive.Ilya Muromets wrote:And that has any bearing on the review how? Hmmmm.. This would make a great slash fic. Like that scene from Mask of Zorro, but with a phaser instead of a sword.Temujin wrote:Lord Revan wrote: Probably because Jellico got fed up and took a phaser to all her casual clothes.
Anyway, I thought the review was pretty good, but he rated the episode higher than I would have. Apart form the usual stupidity, such as beaming down all the command crew into a dangerous situation for no reason, this episode really hurts the Borg as an adversary. They were wasted in this episode, and it just served to make them more like the mundane cyberzombies they became in Voyager.

"Like...are we canonical?" --Aaron Dembski-Bowden to Dan Abnett

Re: OTNGEG - Descent Part 2
The Borg as cyberzombies was properly solidified in First Contact, although their pale skin, zoned out expressions, and shuffling gait they had in "Q Who" helped. In "Descent" they were individualised, almost pathetic cultists manipulated by Lore.

IIRC that building gets use quite often when they need an "futuristic" building that's close to LA (there's that water prossesing plant (IIRC) that's get use alot too (as starfleet academy for example).tezunegari wrote:Big Orange wrote:Isn't Lore's HQ the same place used by the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Zordon? It was also used in Star Trek 6 as a building at Camp Khitomer.Ryushikaze wrote:Yes.
