"Ken Catalino" seems to have a real hard on for doing these "Obama hates our troops" cartoons, this is the 3rd one in the past three days:

He also has the flags going the wrong way, and in the wrong color. The flag always has the hoist-side in the front, because the soldiers are supposed to be 'charging' into battle. So, he can't even get a detail right about a group he's supposed to be defending.

It's totally accurate. It's a difficult to execute war, that Americans didn't necessarily want, that he inherited from the president before him.

So the military was incapable or unwilling to win Afghanistan through the ten years of Bush? Or was he tying their hands somehow, too?

Because there were no problems with the Iraq/Afghanistan wars during the Bush years.

He should be looking to the State Department. The military is there to provide security, kill insurgents and do the odd bit of rebuilding. A few companys worth or reconstruction troops isn't going to do much.

OK, the following I am posting more to illustrate a point then to show a "TERRIBLE poltical cartoon.
Image

This is "Ken Catalino" Fourth cartoon in the past Four days that effectively drives at the exact same theme: "Obama hates our military"

The point here is that Conservative political cartoonists seem to have incredible hang-ups when they hit upon a certain theme. "Steve Benson" of the Arizona republic is a fairly center of the road cartoonists, if someone does something stupid, Liberal or conservative, he mocks therm. Something however that I have never seen him do, in his more then 20 years of nearly daily comics, is bring up the same theme twice in a single week.

Every day there are countless bits of stupidity for someone to mock. If your job as a political cartoonist is to do this, you should never have a need to repeat the same theme twice.
With that in mind, let us take a stroll down memory lane.

"Eric Allie" back during Obamas inauguration, ran the following:
Image
Image
Image
To be fair, those three came out one month apart. Jan, Feb, and then in May.
However, in November of 09, when the now discredited "Global Warming Gate" hit, we got the following.

Image
Image
Image
These were posted over the course of the 24th, the 25th and the 30th of November.
Different cartoons with the exact same message.
Now these are two instances by just one cartoonist, but Eric Allie is by no means alone. As many might know, the true King of the over used carton is Michael Ramirez.

In late 2009, over the course of 36 days, Ramierz proceeded to post
ONE
TWO
THREE
FOUR
FIVE
SIX
SEVEN
EIGHT
Cartoons all basically mocking Obama's policy on Afghanistan.
Again, there are many more examples throughout the archives of Conservative cartoons, but these are the most egregious. As always I invite anyone to try and find liberal examples along the same path, but I have yet to see anyone approach these levels.

Slightly off-topic, but how often do cartoonists on the left tend to post off a single issue?

Depends on how you look at it. For example, Ted Rall is almost guaranteed to have something about one of the wars, military atrocities, industrialist/corporatist takeover, and Presidential ineptitude.

Tom Tomorrow almost exclusively dogs on corporate domination of American society.

But then, I don't know if that would count as "political cartoonists who can't break out of their box" or if it counts as "these are the themes the cartoon was made, specifically, to harp on".
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Holy crap, Obama is able to combine and apply marxism, fascism and socialism? Why, he may not be a very good president, but he surely is the next great political philosopher!

So, I think that one container has the Spanish Civil War in it. Both sides of the Spanish Civil War, in fact. I love when people boil their politics down to "SCARY BUZZWORDS! RAR!". But you'd think given how much of the early to middle 20th century was devoted to socialists and fascists trying their hardest to murder each other, those two particularly SCARY BUZZWORDS wouldn't be joined at the hip.

Quite. It's just a meaningless collection of buzzwords.
Oh, it has the approaching teaparty and "we are loosing power", but that's still not coherent in any way at all.

What it's trying to say is that Obama's creating a frankenstein government thats composed and powered by all these liberal ideas, and that the angry tea partiers are coming to stop him.

But it's just so filled with pointless jargon and buzzwords that it seems like the author just decided to throw every pointless liberal strawman, I mean the only thing its missing is Professor and Hollywood Values. Plus you gotta love the fact that it has Mainstream Media then MSNBC next to it to say 'They're not mainstream news but they're still evil"

The one thing that's hilarious if you think about it though is that it's obviously a Frankenstein commentary yet in many tellings of the story the monster created was merely misunderstood and gentle, it was the raving mobs that actually caused the damage.
