This looks pretty damn sweet, even if i do get a bit of a nBSG vibe from it.

 Yeah, that scene with the fighter pilots screamed Viper MK7...

When exactly is it supposed to be released (preferably as english dub or will I have to wait for the fansub?!).

Did that ship launch from being submerged in rock?! :wtf:

Wow. They even have the same helmets and cockpit sort of layouts. It's got more than a little nBSG vibe.

I'm skeptical of an official English release.

Well it's nothing like how the anime depicts it.

Currently it's lying under 1,100 feet (340 m) of water about 180 miles (290 km) southeast of Kyushu, broken in two!

The official release date is December 2010 in Japan. No idea if it will be released in the US.

The first series came out in 1974, and the Yamato was found in 1984 (or thereabouts). A bit of a cock-up, but they're stuck with it canon-wise. The only alternative I can think of is that they deliberately build their starship in Yamato's image as a declaration of intent, or somesuch. That, as you can guess, opens its own can of worms.

Nope. I've heard of it a few times. But it was never aired in Germany...

Are you telling me they actually turn a Japanese WW2 battleship that was sunk by 13 torpedoes and 8 bomb-hits into a spaceship that radiates of awesome?! :wtf:

As a kid, I also had issue with where all that water had gone. I could understand some limited drop in sea level, but 340 m is a bit much; especially when it all convienently returns via the Cosmo DNA.

That or they built the starship INSIDE that battleship to hide it from Gamilas until it was completed (and it nearly worked: Gamilas found about that ship when the only missing parts were the wave motion gun and the wave motion engine being realized with the blueprints from Iscandar).

Don't forget it also blew up while it sank, demolishing around 200 feet of the ships length and blowing it into three main pieces. But hey, given enough money you can rebuild anything. Wooden navies used to do it all the time. Lift up ships bell, slide a new ship under. Good for fooling the politicians who always think rebuilds are cheaper then new ships.

If you can't find it as Space Battleship Yamato, trying looking for Star Blazers. That was the dubbed version of the first three seasons (released in the US as "The Quest for Iscandar," "The Comet Empire," and "The Bolar Wars"). It's cut more than contemporary anime, but less than most of the time.

Don't get series 3: The Bolar Wars. Waste of time.

Only able to watch it work right now, so I had no sound.

Are those supposed to be Gamilon ships, because they look like they have the whole organic design going?

I think they called them that in the subtitles of the trailer.

Well watching it again, I can see some bits taken directly from the series.

Also, the uniforms actually look pretty good in live action.

Yeah, the Gamilon Empire is definitely the enemy, but they have some pretty unusual ship designs going on.

The direction is really BSG, which I don't really think is a bad thing. Seeing it in action it seems really suitable, and the uniforms they've cooked up for this project look boss.

What ever happened to that CGI Yamato movie that someone posted a trailer of a while back? I think it was supposed to be a continuation of the original series and had the Yamato and crew evacuating earth or something?
