Outstanding videogame music
Exactly what it says on the tin.
I submit:
Heroes of Might and Magic III - Necropolis Town Theme
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 - Hell March 2
Ocarina of Time - Song of Time
Going through the heroes 3 directory, that game had so much great music. What are your favorites?

A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.
At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.
The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'
'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

Re: Outstanding videogame music
Far too many to list . I'll just note a few that spring to mind
Hell March. 1 & 2.
Starcraft's Music (All tunes, and from "The Music of Blizzard" soundtrack "En Taro Adun" and "No matter the cost"). All of it. From kickass (Terran) to haunting (Protoss).
Super Mario Galaxy: Nemesis King Koopa. (Kickass Orchestral track).
Halo 1 & 2: "Rock theme for saving the world", "Halo Theme: Mjolnir Mix" (unspeakably awesome), "Drumrun", "Covenant Dance", "Truth and Reconciliation suit".
Planescape Torment: Battle music. (I love the tortured violins).
Monkey Island: Theme song. (Lots of variants).
The Neverhood Soundtrack. Especially "The battle of the Robot Bil" (so many happy then sad memories).
Homeworld: Astral reefs.
Unreal Tournament 2004: I play this a LOT (It's a great source of work out music). I like Skaarj Assault a lot, it kicks into "Save the world!" epicness quickly.
Half Life 2. And HL2:Ep2 ("Vortal Combat").

One of my favorites, not just for the song but because of the jaw dropping (for the time) CGI that went with it.
Final Fantasy VIII - Liberi Fatali

I'll match you with "One Winged Angel" (though both are excellent) and raise it with the AC version .Norade wrote:One of my favorites, not just for the song but because of the jaw dropping (for the time) CGI that went with it.

Grim, as much as I enjoyed Final Fantasy VII and what it did for the genre and for Squaresoft I hesitate to give it more praise than it has already been given. I will say that I do enjoy it and bother versions of 'One Winged Angel' are awesome, but I prefer 'Liberi Fatali' and 'Melodies of Life' and their respective games more now that I have grown and played all three games many times. That said the Final Fantasy games on the PS1, Tactics included, was truly something special and I haven't felt that any other games in the series since have really hit that same mark.

The Ace Combat series soundtracks are pretty epic:
Zero
The Unsung War
The Liberation of Gracemaria
Agnus Dei

I've never played ANY Square games, except for some Final Fantasty Tactics on the GBA. (And I didn't finish that).Norade wrote:Grim, as much as I enjoyed Final Fantasy VII and what it did for the genre and for Squaresoft I hesitate to give it more praise than it has already been given. Re: Outstanding videogame music
Ok lets go with the classics:
Secret of Mana
Angels Fear
Meridian Dance
Symphonic Medley 1
Symphonic Medley 2
FInal Fantasy 3/6
Terras Theme
The Atma Weapon
Ending Theme-1
Ending Theme-2
Final Fantasy Overture
Dragon Quest
Main Overture
Fighting Spirits/Facing Zoma
Into the Legend
Those are just Symphonic highlights, the best of the best. In truth virtually every score in FF3/6 as well as Secret of Mana is a delight to listen to and Dragon Quest has a host of wonderful piceces as well.

Doesn't anyone here play new games? I'm going to go ahead and drop in the intro music for Yakuza 3.

Re: Outstanding videogame music
Pretty much all the music from the Medal of Honor series is awesome. This is a good example, particularly the last minute or so
And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks
Re: Outstanding videogame music
The Terran themes in Starcraft. The rest is all MIDI gurgling. Sorry.
Almost every track in every single CNC game. Say what you will about Tiberium Twilight, but even that a pretty good score.
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin.
Super Smash Bros Brawl is a treasure trove when it comes to this.
Most Street Fighter games have pretty catchy tunes.
Probably could think of more, but then this list would become stupidly big.

Mechwarrior 2 and Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries had fantastic soundtracks.

Videogame soundtracks that's been imprinted to my brain forever:
Dune 2
Command & Conquer
Max Payne 1 (preferred it over MP2's soundtrack as well)

GTA: San Andreas was also an amazing sound track. Nothing like listening to Slow Ride while strafing a highway in a harrier.

Okay, so apparently nobody here plays new games. I'm going to drop Brutal Legend's entire soundtrack while I'm at it.

See I would have, but I wasn't sure if music made prior and only license for the game to use counted or not. Otherwise I would add GTA Vice City's soundtrack.General Zod wrote:Okay, so apparently nobody here plays new games. I'm going to drop Brutal Legend's entire soundtrack while I'm at it.

The entire Lineage II soundtrack
Selected works from the Earth 2150 and Moon Project soundtrack (they don't appear to have names)
One-Winged Angel - Final Fantasy VII (World's Enemy and other variations moreso than the original)
Healing Ground - Prince of Persia (2008)
Overture - Armoured Core 4
Straight Ahead - Dynasty Warriors 4

Homeworld, mission 3 "Return to Kharak"
Hauntingly beautiful, but I do believe its a version of "Adagio for Strings" so it probably doesnt count
Great music though

No, Adagio for Strings was used for the launching of the Mothership. I believe the music for mission 3 was original.
