OVEG - Macrocosm

Post by Mayabird »

Ha! I am the one to post it this week!

Chuck puts himself through another terrible Voyager episode:

DPDarkPrimus is my boyfriend!

SDNW4 Nation: The Refuge And, on Nova Terra, Al-Stan the Totally and Completely Honest and Legitimate Weapons Dealer and Used Starship Salesman slept on a bed made of money, with a blaster under his pillow and his sombrero pulled over his face. This is to say, he slept very well indeed.

And we will be without OVEG for a month. And my Birthday month at that.

That said, i am supprised Chuck did not give Neelix at least a little slack for being out stupided by the Tak Tak.

Yeah, just another brick in the wall of stupidity that this episode presents. Like always, excellent mockery from Chuck.

He is wrong about one thing, though: action does not need to be very expensive to film, but it requires a director and editor who can shoot and cut it so that it works, and actors who can believably carry it out. Voyager had none of those elements.

I'm surprised Chuck didn't make reference to Ripley when Janeway stripped down. That's clearly what the inspiration was.

You know, there's some other thing involving giant viruses that this clearly ripped off, but I can't put my finger down on it...

That's strange, I thought there already was a video for this.

Or maybe I'm just confusing it with the text review on Chuck's site.

There was a text review, but the video is definitely new - and quite good as well.

Once again when I watched this for the first time on TV, even back then I couldn't believe the scientific 'liberties' that were being taken. The one that stuck out in my mind was "How the Hell do they fly?"

I mean it seems classic Trek "logic." A virus can float though the air and infect people, so, a Giant virus must also, somehow, be able to magically fly? yeesh

Those things looked about the size of a pumpkin and might have been just as heavy.

Not to mention the fact that viruses have no independent metabolism and can therefore do absolutely nothing without first infecting a living sell, other than float around in air or liquid. A virus outside a cell is inactive organic matter.

Didn't Captain Kirk's USS Enterprise in another equally silly episode get trapped inside a gigantic bacterial blob floating in space?

I hate to admit it but I enjoyed this episode. This is a great turn your brain off and watch the fools squirm episode. I always wondered why Torres thought it was a remotely good idea to touch the bio gel pack after she noted it was INFECTED with out any sort of anti contamination precautions or have the doctor scan it before touching it.

Actually Spock did in the Shuttle; then they brought in the Enterprise to rescue him.

Because Torres is an idiot, haven't we established this already.

I'm actually surprised that this isn't a Jeri Taylor script. The Janeway wank is set to factor 11 in this episode. Everyone is subdued except the mighty Janeway. And why didn't the bugs every try cumming on Janeway like they did Neelix?

A pretty terrible episode all around.
It's Jodan, not Jordan. If you can't quote it right, I will mock you.

At least a bacteria can, you know, actually DO things.
Sure, a giant bacteria is silly as well - but at least you could write it off as a single-celled organism that is simply really big for some reason (which requires exotic materials etc, as with all giants).
But a giant virus would just be a dead lump of matter unless it encounters an even bigger cell.

The difference between the TOS episode and the VOY episode is that TOS didn't take itself seriously, you know going in that it's going to be campy and silly. The Post-TNG era wasn't like that at all.

I've seen enough of Star Trek to know that Star Trek writers actually have no idea what a virus is.

You also have to remember that these thing are supposed to be viruses, just super sized. The TOS amoeba was just a ginormous space going life form that just happened to resemble a giant bacteria in appearance and biology.

Overall, the episode would have been much better if the ship had been invaded by Thalaxians and Janeway accidentally shot Neelix
