Pah! The Ultimate Power in the Universe is the power of Chaos. We wiped out most of the Eldar. We corrupted the Primachs of the Emperor. We decimated the ranks of one of the greatest space marine chapters at The Cage. If it hadn't been for the stupidity of a few individuals, and the luck of others, then the galaxy would be in our hands now!

If the Federation tried to enroach into our space then i think that several of their officers would have a hard time trying to resist the allure of Chaos. Once we have the more reliable ST Warp Drive (yes, the 40K Warp drive is more dangerous than the ST Warp drive.) things would soon take the course they were ment to and there is nothing those pansies the Eldar could do to prevent it. The Imperia Lap Dogs would swiftly be swept away and the false emperor removed from the Golden Throne and scarificed to the glory of the Dark Gods!

Pah Chaos scum, Chaos didn't cause our fall we did... And just you wait he is coming the God of the dead, and he will destroy the great enemy Slanneesh and the forces of chaos will be in rout...

Anyway I had a counter to consquences post but it got lost, I'll repost it soon, when I can face rewriting the whole post. (It was long, and then my comp decided nah, sorry time to screw you up...)

Slanesh is a weakling. " Oh look at me. I can corrupt some people with my beauty. Ladeda" Even if you do kill him there are still three Dark Gods to go and they will be a much stronger challenge. No Farseer can match the power of the Changer Of Ways and his disciples. No Phoenix Lord can match Khorne and his minions in the theatre of war. And not even the mighty resistance of the Space Marines can resist the pagues of Father Nurgle. Your God of Death will soon be nothing but a rotton stain on the path to dominace of the Dark Powers

Not God of Death God of the Dead huge differance there... anyway to answer consquences
So the Eldar, a dying race, who have suffered a number of vicious setbacks recently, including a Tyranid attack by hive fleet Kraken that wrecked large portions of one of their most prominent craftworlds, are supposed to be the ultimate power now?
Nope not ulitmate power, but powerful enough to deal with an Imperial expediation into an unknown Galaxy. The Element of surprise here is the key, and the superior weapon technolgy.
You say in one post that they can avert any cataclysm, but in another claim that they were unwilling to do anything about the necrons, and the fact that they have done little more than slow the tyranid advance doesn't help your case either.
How many Craftworlds have fallen to the Nid's through... put simply it's a case of, they may know what is coming but at the moment it dosn't o much good against the nids, the Nid's are a tidal wave, and all the Eldar can do is make a barrier to push the Nid's around them rather than rushing for them. In doing this they obey their standard tactic whenever possible make it someone elses problem to deal with rather than their own. Eventually maybe the humans will win out against the Nid's and the Eldar will survive, evcentually a different result may occur the point is that when say a 100 Humans die instead of an Eldar the Eldar have achieved their goal.
If they are such uber psykers, why couldn't they simply convince the necrons to go back to sleep? As originally envisioned, there was a balance of power in the 40k universe, where the Eldar's ability to see the future, and travel easier to trouble spots than most other races, were only able to maintain a stalemate against all of the hostile forces in the galaxy.
Because the Necron's serve beings who older than anything else in the universe, beings that fed off of Stars. As I say the Eldar simply arn't going to go up against that force, it's a human problem at the moment, and the longer it stays that way the happier the Eldar are. Let Humans die fighting back the Necron's it saves Eldar lives. The Eldar don't have the number's too get involved in every problem facing the Galaxy, they don't want to either, as long as those problems won't come round and take an Eldar life they don't care. it's selfish yes but thats the way the Eldar are, their lack of number's keeps them from rising once more to super power stsatus, the threat of Slannessh who waits to chow down on them means they arn't going to take foolish risks. They arn't the super power, thats humanity's role, but they have it over the Eldar due to number's in the end it is that simple.

Why would the Eldar attack the Empire at all? Wouldn't it be better to let the Empire draw some of the attention of various hostile powers? Wouldn't an alliance of the Imperium of Man and the Galactic Empire distract the Necrons or the Tyranids longer? By the way, if the Tyranids so far have been a tidal wave, then the Empire fully converted to war production would be a supernova.

Exactly, they'd be a supernova. A supernova that would immediately set about purging the galaxy of all xenos scum. (That's includes the Eldar.) The only reason the Imperium don't pose just as much a threat to the eldar as the tyranids is because the Eldar are capable of manipulating these races effectively. They can't even communicate with the Nids never mind trick them into doing anything. Basicly the Nids go where they please, and woe betide anyone who gets in their way (anyone without a few million guard, a HUGE spacefleet and a chapter or two of space marines at any rate.)

Even if the Eldar forsaw the Imperial (Galactic) delegation and decided to send an intercepting force to prevent it from reaching the Imperium... if Palpatine or Vader had enough personal interest in the mission and were concentrating on it's future (likely) they would themselves forsee the Eldar interception plan. They would then amend their own tactics, perhaps shadowing the delegation with a powerful fleet that could jump in on demand. (This is better since making the delegation itself a huge fleet, since they don't want to spook the IOM at first contact)

If the delegation is too big (a huge fleet), the IOM may think they're being attacked and an IOM-GE shooting war could start over the altar of fear and lack of communication.

If the delegation is too small (a few ships, maybe not even any Star Destroyers) it will be easy prey for the Eldar.

Therefore the best idea is to keep the delegation small, but have a fleet hanging back a bit (at a distance that would be considered massive in WH-40K, maybe even remaining at the wormhole, but capable of jumping in in a hurry via hyperspace if they were needed.) Once the delegation has been recieved by the IOM this fleet can depart anyway (since if the Eldar attack that delegation now they'll also be attacking the IOM by default).

Aye and it's also harder for the Eldar to attack, except for one problem, if the Eldar hit quickly enough (And Speed is the Eldar's speciallity Even in fleet engagements) and hard enough they could have the first fleet down very quickly and be gone, or going before the SW Empire's back up fleet can arrive. Giving chase would be hard, you would have to enter the Web Way, and that is a maze. (And not really a Web more lots of connecting paths with many Focal points.)

No Problem with that happening. In The Far Future of the 41st Millenium their is only War. It's a way of life, the Eldar hit the IoM The IoM Hit the Eldar, thewy both gang up against Chaos and Nid's and on and on, their is no peace more a few sector's have a cease fire going.
