My uber right wing friend at work was telling me about that. Though he was sure that the "muslim outreach" as it were is an executive order.

Re: another round of TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS
Which is ridiculous since there are Muslims out there who are very competent scientists and engineers. I can think of four that I've met right off the top of my head: one of my professors (a thermodynamics expert), one of my old bosses, my pediatrician when I was growing up and a guy I worked with who had his PE.
Now, to be fair, only the professor (who's too old to realistically be a astronaut now) had a specialty that would likely transfer to something that would work in the space program, but the point is that being Muslim doesn't necessarily stop you from having the qualifications necessary.
But then, we already knew that didn't we.

While I don't like the implied racism of the cartoons, and the general stupidity espoused, I have to admit that I think Obama deserves a little public humiliation considering his assfucking of human spaceflight in the US program.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

I agree, this picture is entirely in the wrong place in a BAD cartoon thread... Simple and well done.
A minute's thought suggests that the very idea of this is stupid. A more detailed examination raises the possibility that it might be an answer to the question "how could the Germans win the war after the US gets involved?" - Captain Seafort, in a thread proposing a 1942 'D-Day' in Quiberon Bay

The meaning of it is perfectly straightforward:
1) NASA is being used to treat the low self esteem of muslims.
2) Muslims created maths, so this is stupid as they should have high self esteem.

Actually math was invented independently by multiple different groups. I think the arabs are responsible for algebra, greeks for geometry and English/germans for calculus.

Re: another round of TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS
Holy shit, that first cartoon is incredibly dishonest. Read the article: it says nothing of the sort!
Basically, there's a (single) study which shows that out of 2000 women who received mammograms, 11 could expect to be diagnosed with breast cancer and undergo treatment, yet out of those, 10 would not have their lives prolonged by the treatments.
The cartoon says "Breast cancer screening hurts 10 times as many women as it helps" in an attempt to create some sort of fucked-up image that taking a mammogram = getting hurt, when it's the treatment that hurts, not the screening.
And, of course, it neglects to mention the tiny little detail that detecting breast cancer in its early stages (which only a mammogram can do) means it has a 90% recovery rate. But that would make it more difficult to scare women into not monitoring their health regularly, right?
Fuck, I always get so pissed off at people twisting study results to suit their messed up agendas...

Re: another round of TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS
There are problems with early breastcancer screening - it leads to a lot of false positives (and hence, women losing their breasts with little reason). See (for example) http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6424VY20100503 . That's not to say that cartoon doesn't misrepresent the situation, though.
Re: another round of TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS
That's why most sane health systems urge women above 50 to get regular breast screening every two years, and do follow-up diagnostics before administering chemotherapy.
The cartoon (and article), on the other hand, would like to promote "cancer prevention instead of treatment" (how do you know you prevented yourself from getting cancer without diagnostics, anyway?), rather than procedural solutions for something which is clearly a procedural problem (OMG SMALL TUMOR LET'S CUT IT OFF!!!), doesn't differentiate between younger and older women and cites a single study with no actual references posted on a "natural health" website which promotes things like the GMO scare and the vaccine-autism link. The study doesn't even necessarily show what they want it to show, anyway.

Re: another round of TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS
How can you even prevent breast cancer, aside living healthily?
Oh, and has nobody commented on the last cartoon in Crossroads' post? I am not sure where they are getting at. Aside the suggestion with "keeping a good reputation", the stuff seems to be the kind of stuff that feminist shouldn't have a problem with, no? I mean, what's wrong with developing a sense of responsibility and self-esteem (how do you do that, I wonder) as well as using family planning (of course, I would guess they are thinking "no marriage before sex" but that is not clear).
I am actually confused what it's trying to say.

Magic diets, of course! Natural remedies! Coloidal silver (fully natural remedy, remember)! Colon cleansing! (also natural!) Avoiding vaccines! Deacidification (IT'S NATURAL!)!Zixinus wrote:How can you even prevent breast cancer, aside living healthily?
And no genetic screening of zygotes, that's unnatural and barbaric. And don't get mammograms, you'll just get a false positive and lose your breasts because thin men with huge syringes will tie you up and herd you to a masectomy.
It's interesting - so the idea is to emphasize cancer prevention education. That's cool: there are well-known cancirogens that one should avoid. But why one or the other? You can live healthy and get regular checkups to make sure you haven't been screwed by the genetic lottery anyway.

It's wrongfully accusing feminism for young women not taking responsibility for their actions and living unhealthy lifestyles. Conveniently ignoring that most young PEOPLE are allergic to any sort of personal responsibility and must pass the buck or lay blame somewhere else. Yet another example of noticing a problem and instantly pinning it on a pet hate rather than looking for causes.I am actually confused what it's trying to say.

note that basic mamagrams and pap smears are a service that Planned Parenthood provides to the underclass. They also do testicular and prostate cancer exams for us working class joes.
So this is evidence of their pet hate doing a good, in their black & white world that can't be, thus the whole issue of cancer must be a big conspiracy.

Re: another round of TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS
Wouldn't it be more useful to give some ideas on how correctly diagnosing breast cancer is done? You, knowing what the standard protocol for breast cancer diagnosis is (probably stuff like blood tests to see whether there are tell-tale signs of cancer, another mamagram, etc), before life-altering treatment may begin. In order to avoid a negligent doctor that for some reason doesn't want to do his or her job properly. And no genetic screening of zygotes, that's unnatural and barbaric. And don't get mammograms, you'll just get a false positive and lose your breasts because thin men with huge syringes will tie you up and herd you to a masectomy.
